| This song is about a 21 year old boy who grew up with only his mother and is now in jail and his father for the first time comes to see him. His father tells him that he's sorry that he hates him the way he does and the boy tells him this isn't about you this is about my mother who had to deal with raising a child by herself as a teenager and a "kid who might have stood a whole lot better shot at life" if only he had been there for him and taught him how to fish and throw a ball but instead he was out learning how to smoke because his mother prayers weren't enough to keep him from doing wrong. His mom had to work all the time in order to support the two of them so she wasn't there to stop him and he tells him that if he had been there to whoop him once or twice he would have understood the difference between right and wrong. The boy pretty much tells him its too late to come in and save the day because he has already done something really bad and he is in jail for it. | |

This song is about a 17 year old when he was young his parent were divorced, and he was living with his mother. His father comes over all high on drugs and his mom tells him to not let him in so the boy takes his apartment and while he's past out he tells him he loves him and he's leaving and then goes back to his mothers house and leaves a note saying that he can't stay there anymore because if he does its gonna end up breaking him so he leaves. He ends up making a lot of wrong decisions in his life but in the end he find a girl and they get married and have a son. His sister calls him one day with a pain in her voice, their mother is dead. He goes to his mothers funeral and his dad is there sober saying that Jesus has taken away his sins and he hopes that someday he will forgive him for the past. When the "boy" gets back to Texas he calls his dad and pretty much forgives him by telling him that his grandson has his eyes and they have an extra room for him to live with them. |
