| Lady GaGa – Gypsy Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I will take this opportunity to be the first one to give an interpretation/comment/opinion about this song. ARTPOP, despite some misses, is one well-constructed album. The weak ones are well placed in the record's listing. Gypsy is the best penultimate track, a good mood-booster before the "super anthem" Applause. Gypsy is a stand-out despite the song kind of has this "Hey, I've kind of heard this song before" feel to it It's theme is reminiscent of Born This Way, Gaga's previous record. It's even musically under the BTW tag. A not-so-slow-not-so-fast track about her inner feelings and emotions. What makes it stand out is its story. Of course Gaga is no gypsy, as pertaining to the Romani people. To those who are unaware of who they are, they are people who are deemed "wanderers". But she applies the way of life of a gypsy to her life. Gaga and the gypsy have so many things in common: they keep on moving from one place to another, constantly redefining their lives and their living, constantly meeting new friends and new experiences. See? In this sense, we can actually apply ourselves too as "gypsies". We are a gypsy in a way, constantly strives to find our eternal happiness. Now. The song. Of course if you're going to dissect it, is a dialogue between a guy and a girl. And the guy's thinking of leaving and exploring the world on his own. We have those moments. The sweet taste of freedom. But he has her. And she has him. And he's thinking of leaving her so that he can "see the whole world in front of him." Devastated, she could only come up with saying something that can maybe help her cope from the pain. Saying that "I don't want to be alone forever, but I can be tonight." Imagine the strength. You got slapped in the face, and your only reaction is "I'll be alright. I mean, I won't be forever, but I'll manage tonight." The guy then asks her "Why do we love each other?" And she could only reply "Honey, it's simple: it's the way that you love and treat your mother." The guy then learns that... he doesn't need to see the world alone. He doesn't need to wander of the Earth's wonders. He doesn't have to be alone. He has her. And she has him. And finally he thinks of not staying with her... but letting her come with him. "Thought that I would be alone forever, but I won't be tonight. I'm a man without a home, but I think with you, I could spend my life." We're all waiting for that person to say those words to us. We're all gypsies. See the world together. Never alone. |
