He's scorning this girl's naivety here, saying she'll believe anything she hears, and obviously it's not all true. When she wakes up hungover from her problems- and probably naive way of escaping the world through drinking and running the gossip mill, she wishes she were just sober. Such a cute song. Ahhh! At the Summer Set show I went to this spring, Brian Dales said before he played thissong "This song is about a girl you may know, that we (the band) all know, our drummer Jess Bowen. Well, Jess f*ckin' freaks us out!" It's was almot affectionate, to friggin' adorable. So yeah, there you have it. Brian wants Jess and every other boy on the block does too (? ftw! I know..) but she freaks them out, in the good way I guess hahahah. They still think she's pretty rad. :] |

This song is amazing. Pretty self explainatory because it tell's a story. This girl isn't a pariah but she isn't too hip growing up. Nobody really hears her, so she decides two things. To be heard, she has to get out of her close-minded town, and she's going to sing her own truths. She turns into success, she gets on the radio. But there is a price with the success. She sort of loses her roots, and that ties into how much world changes her; down to her own name. The girl seems to be pushing judgment away, and she's saying she'll be fine, even if she is dubbed a "runaway" if she just tries. |

I think it's about Meg saying she can stand up for herself all while not having to follow her sister's path, she'll live all the more fiercely because Dia is counting on her failures. Dia is just trying to protect her little sister and be her umbrella from everything. I feel in sync with this song. Big sisters don't want to give up their passion and cajole their little sisters through life, but they want to be their "umbrellas", sometimes. And little sisters want to prove themselves to their big sisters. I think anyone close to a big/little sister could relate to this... :) Love it. |

I saw the Higher a couple weeks ago. They were absolutely amazing. <3. At the end of the show at the merch tables, I asked Seth Trotter (lead vocalist and song writer of TH) what 'the book' represented. He said (this is probably paraphrased now) "I'm really glad you ask me that. It's about back in the time of Shakspere, when he wrote Romeo and Juliet, there was a dating ettiquette book, that dictated everything from how girl kissed to how a guy was supposed to treat a girl. The book was it, that was the rule then. And that stemmed and just inspired the lyrics. Ya know?" There you have it. I think that is too cool. :) |

Girl stole smitten boys heart and ran away with it, he adores her heart hardcore.(: But she thinks he's pretty swell too, better than the beach, the street and the epitome sweet, ahaha. She keeps him grounded in this world. I was impressed initially when I heard this song. The storyline in the song is so cute, "She should've known from the start her heart was my favorite part". Leave it to Shaant to write a lyrical love letter that commends both lovers.. |
