bam ok, so the seven faces refers to that when he lived in New York he would always pretend to be/act like different people and groups so he could fit in in alot of places. "thought i knew which one to wear" refers to the idea that he thought he did a good job of changing for each different cliche, of what have you. the "lonely nights" is likely a reference to how he never had any true friends, because of the 'faces' he possessed, but he has apparently gotten used to this. and pretty much the rest of the song is saying how he truly appreciates what new york has tried to do for him, and the comfort and home its given him, but he simply "isnt impressed." the first few lines are the deepest, but this is a fantastic song overall, cheers. |

this seems to kinda be a comparison to the fact that the pimp and the priest are very similar to each other, even though they seem to be opposies in reality. and throughout the 'story' albums dear hunter have made, the river represents her job as a...lady o' the night, and the lake her son as a result of her duties. overall, it is a very well written piece. |

This song is perhaps connected to a relationship. The house represents a relationship, because like a house, a relationship must be worked on, built up and maintained. in this case, it appears that this relation has come to an end. the idea that he "hasnt spent much time there" could mean two things: 1) he hasnt put time and commitment to the relationship and it has fallen apart or, more likely, 2)he isnt associating with his former lover because it wouldnt feel right, and maybe it would be akward. the reason why 1 is less likely is becasue it appears he wants the relationship to happen again becasue in V2 it says he wishes to close his eyes and imagine that something may still be there. (literally, the house, but for the song the lover/relationship) |

This is clearly a love song, but one steeped in obscurity. "all ignored, real emotion's such a drag" is a clear refernce to the way you feel when someones in love, the fact that only they matter and once you snap bck to reality, it seems so dry compared to your love life. "i found a whistle that works everytime" is perhaps a reference to a lover that is loyal and is always there for him, or them, if thats what they're into. |

Taking into consideration MGMT's mildly prolific drug background, the idea that this song is about drugs is not an inaccurate one. Bruises from injections, feeding "poison," nervously asking if you know if 'its working' all point to an apparent drug theme. Purely considering their narcotics references in other songs, it seems that all other possible meaning for this song are quickly thrown out the window. |
