This song is about a failed relationship or kind of person (maneater)....heres how: Innocence. Sunk the glow and drowned in covers, send for all your absent lovers things. Innocence disappears in covers (as in the person loses innocence once she/he is in bed) This person isn't around (or is incredibly distant) Sheepish Wolves. Looking lived in eating buttons, Wink, just don't put your teeth on me. Sheepish wolves can mean 2 things... 1. The person wants a lot but isn't willing to commit for it (wants sex but no relationship) 2. or refers to the saying "a wolf in sheeps clothing" meaning the person acts innocent but really isn't the next lines mean the person is happy with living the way they do even if it isn't the whole anchilada or orthidox. It's okay for that person to be like that but I (the singer/brendon) won't take part in it (again). Accidents. Let the evening in the backdoor, filled the room ceiling to the floor. heres where it gets personal to the singer: Part of truth somehow slipped (accidently I suppose) and then the rest of the truth was told. Beat backbones. Grazed the poem and made it strange, I wasn't born to be a skeleton. the person didn't want to say anything about it or let the cheating end the relationship(lack of a backbone/being weak or soft) but what was a beautiful relationship (poem-like) was scratched out and now the relationship is uncomfortable and akward the singer wasn't born to be left in a corner and ignored the way he/she was. Go on, grab your hat and fetch a camera. Go on, film the world before it happens. take something out of this story, go out, see the hints for yourself and make sure not to let it happen to you. Jealous orchard. The sky is falling off the ceiling while I'm tucking fibs into a cookie jar. Ther person is jealous all the time (an orchard full of jealousy) and because of that it feels as if the their worldis ending because this feeling is eating him alive but he doesn't want to end the relationship. But he doesn't tell anyone and hides his feelings about it (a cookie jar=smiles "oh no hun I'm fine" etc.) (Bombed) reverie. It's useless searching in the cupboards when everything you have is on your back. bombed reverie means destroyed daydream so something he thought was a perfect relationship turned out to end up in disaster. There is no going around it and you can't hope things were somehow different. The singer is now paranoid and jealous all the time (a very large amount judging the size of an orchard) it feels as if this persons world is ending because of how he constantly feels about it. but he won't tell anyone about it aand he lies to the cheater because he still doesn't want things to end. It's useless searching in the cupboards when everything you have is on your back. bombed reverie means is basically a shattered daydream so what this person thought was a great relationship ended up being a disaster and no matter how hard you try you can't change what happened or look for any alternate siyuations that could've happened when you already know the whole story. I basically peiced this together by myself (and im incredibly proud...) I'm only fourteen and I actually got to make sense of lyrics by someone like ryan ross!!
