| Stone Sour – Zzyzx Rd. Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Zzyzx Rd" is a love song written to Taylor's wife for helping him in his struggles against alcoholism and contemplation of suicide. He stated "I've never written anything like that before, but it was very important for me to tell the world not only how much she saved me, but how much she means to me," said Taylor. Taylor said there is a common thread with the lyrics throughout the album, saying that they are "about never forgetting where you came from, who you are and why you do this | |
| Slipknot – Gematria (The Killing Name) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| MOFO your entitled to your opinion but I do not think Slipknot is advocating killing familes. It's about the US getting into wars with other countries for oil or to push our ideals and religion on them. It is suggesting that killing in the name of christianity or god is wrong. I don't know the average age of slipknot fans but I am 49 years old, educated and have kids in high school and college. Even an old F@@K like me can see they are simply voicing there displeasure with our governments policies for the past 8 years or so. | |

| Tool – Schism Lyrics | 15 years ago |

The thing that makes this song great, as with many other Tool songs, you can think about the meaning for yourself and how this song relates to your personal life. In my opinion, like many posters above me, the song is about the separation between two people who have been very close together: "I know the pieces fit because I watched them fall away" Most of the time the separation is not anyone's fault, but is rather the product of the path that given people decide to take: "Mildewed and smoldering. Fundamental differing. Pure intention juxtaposed will set two lovers souls in motion Disintegrating as it goes testing our communication" The situation worsens when the two people are trying to find a reason for the split and end up blaming each other: "I know the pieces fit because I watched them tumble down No fault, none to blame it doesn't mean I don't desire to Point the finger, blame the other, watch the temple topple over." At this point it is still time to save the relationship through the efforts of two individuals to start communicating with each other: "To bring the pieces back together, rediscover communication" But since we are human, this does not always happen, our pride takes over us and destroys what is left of the relationship, so the only thing left to do is to learn the lesson from our mistakes: "The poetry that comes from the squaring off between, And the circling is worth it. Finding beauty in the dissonance." |

| Tool – Forty Six & 2 Lyrics | 15 years ago |

The title references an idea first conceived by Drunvalo Melchizedek concerning the possibility of reaching a state of evolution at which the body would have two more than the normal 46 total chromosomes and leave a currently disharmonious state. The premise is that humans would deviate from the current state of human DNA which contains 44 autosomes and 2 sex chromosomes. The next step of evolution would likely result in human DNA being reorganized into 46 and 2 chromosomes, according to Melchizedek. Furthermore, the song references a wish to experience change through the "shadow"; an idea which represents the parts of one's personality that one hates and fears, which also exists as a recurring theme in the work of Carl Jung The song is mostly in 4/4 time with some sections of 7/8 in between. In the intro, Danny Carey plays 4 measures of 7/8 on his ride cymbal over the rest of the band playing in 4/4, and they all meet up on the downbeat of the 5th measure in 4/4. During the bridge there are 3 measures of 7/8 followed by one measure of 4/4, and a brief polyrhythm of 6/8 over 7 in breakdown solo |

| Tool – Stinkfist Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| The aemima album is about the evolution of humankind to the next level and how mankind itself is merely a stepping stone toward that higher consciousness. It begins with Stinkfist which, like a lot of Keenans songs, is layered richly with symbolism and metaphor. On the surface it seems to be using fist-fucking as a metaphor for trying to connect in this modern life where we are so alienated that we are nearly numb. We've reached a critical point in our evolution. ("Something has to change, undeniable dilemma") We need to feel something to even know we're alive anymore. I like the way one of the verses goes from finger deep to knuckle deep to elbow deep and ends with shoulder deep. It's visual and disturbing. And then the way "turn around and take my hand" could mean either inside you or like a lover extending comfort. All in all this whole album is an onion full of metaphysical concepts, Jungian symbolism and human evolutionary ideas. The more you peel away the more you'll see. It's one of my personal favorites. | |
