I know this post is really old, but you have got to be kidding me? The Fountain of Lamneth has NOTHING to do with the Ayn Rand book called The Fountainhead. I'm not exactly sure what The Fountain Of Lamneth is about, but The Fountainhead has nothing to do with the fountain of youth. It has to do with "man's" desire/need to be true to himself. It's much deeper, but I would have let you say it's about rebellion as the main character insists on following his own path even if it's against the current main stream thought process.

I'm not usually rude on here, but you're an idiot. I could understand your posting if it was clever or funny... but this is neither. You're lucky that this site doesn't have an intelligence requirement, because you wouldn't have been allowed to join.

You are right. Just add in that the world in Anthem has no individuality. Instead of names, people have numbers that assign them to their "place" in society. People do as their told told and everybody must think not about themselves, but what they do for society.

The song is basically the same. The person discovers a guitar and that he can play music which is enjoyable to him. But the priests (of the Temples of Syrinx) decide that this does not benefit society and should be banned. And that they knew about the guitar/music and it's use in the past.

While a like your argument, I don't think it has much to do with this song.

I don't think this is a "knock" on religion. But it does have a lot to do with common religious beliefs. "Kindness that can kill" is referring to a loving God that (according to the Bible) has - among other things - destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah and unleashed a great flood to cleanse the sinners.

This is mostly about the age old debate about whether a supreme being dictates our lives. Many people say yes. And Peart is pointing out that even if you decide to believe that your life is predetermined - you have made a choice to believe it. And since not everybody has decided to believe this, we have freewill.
