Well, when you think about it, that might not work. Dancing can't really be used as a euphemism for two reasons. 1: It's not a more pleasent way to put the same meaning down. 2: Dead dancing in their graves is already a standalone expression.
The dead turn over in their grave when something unpleasent, or contradictory of any work they did to prevent it happens. The dead dance in their grave when their influence has left an effect of some sort, wether immediate or gradual, and wether positive of negative, as long as they would have wanted it to go that way. For example, Martin Luther king is turing over in his grave as all the stereotypes he worked against are reinforced by all the wannabe gangsters, and careless rappers who shun education and would rather have ho's and money. The african american community is losing respect, and it isn't fair. Respectable humans don't deserve to be lowered on the social ladder because of the idiots of their race. Now, let's say the jews were to undergo some mass unnust persecution, and they became the target of discrimation and hate crime all of a sudden, greatly decreasing their numbers, and increasing fear in their community. That tyrant hitler would then be "dancing in his grave" |

no offense but that's a really lazy interpretation. Don't forget, titanic had a message too. Maybe it was hidden under all the lovey-dovey between the main characters, but it was there. Think along of the lines of "the best laid plans". How they can easily go awry despite a pleasant outlook. Then just go from there, you'll find some interesting things. |

You really can't try to look deeper than that? Tell me, what was the meaning of the titanic? Don't tell me it doesn't have one, I know it has several. |

Well, it's a valid point, until you realize the song never changes direction. As in, Matt shadows never grammatically changes who his speech is aimed at. At one point, he says "I'm in a room" so it's clear this is all from his point of view. But the way the lyrics are written, he's always talking about the people he sees. Definitely a good idea though. |

Well, that describes a lot of parties, sans the iceberg.Even if they did use the titanic as an example, that could have been a reference to life and society. Think, the titanic was a boat that was expected to run beautifully and accommodate all it's guests with the greatest of pleasures. Just like America, and our democratic system is. Of course, the titanic hit an iceberg and several died. We've hit quite the economic dark days, and because of this we have homeless/unemployed people, unjust and untimely death. Down there, mr. fakeblood has a good idea too. You have to explain "the world that they built". Also, the titanic hit an iceberg, it didn't explode. A7X doesn't just throw in lyrics for the hell of it (except for "yeah" They do that alot) and you didn't have an explanation for the Time bomb stanza up there. A lot of A7X can be related to another story, and they make great use of allusions. I can't count the number of bible stories A7X has made into songs. That doesn't mean that those songs are specifically about them. Bat country references a movie "Fear and Loathing in las vegas" by Hunter S. Thompson, and it has several quotes from it (it's actually sung about the main character). Ever head the quote "We can't stop here, this is bat country"? But like I said, the songs aren't EXACTLY about those allusions, and could simply be trying to reinforce any messages they found in the stories themselves. Good examples
Chapter Four(Story of Cain and abel): Warning against the practice of murder
Bat Country(Fear and loathing in las vegas): Warning against drug abuse
Beast and the Harlot(The fall of babylon): Warning against fornication outside of marriage
and so on. |

You pretty much hit the nail on the head there friend. A7X usually uses broad meanings, instead of specific examples, so you got I think. Well, it could be a bit more particular. Possibly leaning towards how detrimental a "night-owl" or "partygirl/guy" lifestyle could be. Then again, all the "champagne" and "pleasant music" they speak of could be a reference to the pleasantries of real life, the ease of access to alchohol, the unrealistic music that doesn't touch on issues, but rather avoids them. Seems like all the new pop artists can't think of anything else to sing about rather than love. It's pitiful. Guitarmang down there (lol guitarchick and guitarmang) has a good pint too. Trying to use outward appearance to hide evil, or to hide the fact that being so social is tearing them apart from their friends and family, making them creatures of the night. i dunno. There is usally a LOT that can be derived from Matt's lyrics. |
