Deep Purple – Highway Star Lyrics 15 years ago
It's about being high as a kite while driving fast. His girl is there, high as well, and all he's thinking about is more, faster, better. He's just aimlessly driving, behaving recklessly. Try putting the song on when you're flying down the road, imagine what the song would sound like if you were messed up (don't actually drive messed up). You'll understand then.

Deep Purple – Space Truckin' Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is about the drug scene of the early 1970's, traveling around, sharing different drugs with different people you encountered along the way. The visitation of different places in space make references to different highs from different drugs. I would expect they wrote this from personal experience.

Led Zeppelin – The Crunge Lyrics 15 years ago
This song blows. I can't stand it. It ruins an otherwise fantastic album. I love it when I can listen to an album all the way through like a story, and this seems like a deviation from that story. Some aspects of the song are actually good. If it was on its own, not ruining the feel of this album, I may like it better. However, two things absolutely ruin it for me:

1. What's with all the grunting and wailing? Aehhhhnd...ahhhhhhhhhh. That's all I hear, it's invasive.

2. THE CHEAP SOUNDING SYNTHESIZED HORNS. They sound like they came off of a Fisher-Price keyboard. It seems like they were inserted as an afterthought. I can't believe nobody else discussed this. I remember when I first bought this album when I was in high school. I had heard most songs on it before, but a couple of them (this being one of them) were new to me. I was letting it play through, in relaxed listening mode, when all of a sudden I felt like I got slapped across the face by these oddly placed fake instrumental sounds. My eyes opened, I thought "what they fuck?!", and I skipped the track.

The whole "bridge" thing just adds to the fact that "The Crunge" should be renamed "The Gimmick". "The bridge" just gives people with nothing to say something to talk about.

Oh, by the way: appreciation of obscurity for obscurity's sake is not the way to become the ultimate fan of a band. Listen to it all.

And yes, I can also appreciate that they did something different and somewhat experimental. I just hate the horns, and that they messed up the flow of their album.
