The elderly narrator, in the last moments or days of his life, is telling his regret for the life he passed with bad habits (inborn needs of dominate and possess). He longs for his youth days to turn back and live a life to spend in a better way (for the victims of longing). He is also sorry for not having a religion I guess. In the last stanza I guess he is dying and feeling relief somehow. So melancholic and a sad song, but one of the greatests from Opeth for me. |

i agree with kiiabby. And i add my ideas over his: I think the man has made a marriage in his very youth. He's bored with his monotonous life and got depressed. But there is also no problem home to break up. He is living a mandotory life. He is not courageous enough to run away from it, he can't venture whats to come. He got used to this boring course after years. This is an incidental life. I like this song. |
