Bloc Party – The Present Lyrics 15 years ago
i always think of this song as a guy, who is trying his hardest to get a girl (i know it's not necessarily a female but in terms on concepts it works) but she's recently had a really bad break up, or a really tough time in her life which is stopping him from acting upon his feelings. it's like he's trying to reassure her he's 'always here', to give her a reason to come close to him, and that 'time is a healer' - we all know things get better with time and he wants her to 'let it go'. he's trying his best to do romantic things to make her see him in the way he wants her to - like stealing her a ring. he's trying to get her to 'come over' and he 'can't wait' for time to act as a healer: so they can be together.
totally different to what everyone else said but why not be controversial eh..
this is newly one of my favourite bloc party songs, i could never choose a favourite because i'm in love with them all..

my favourite line is 'baby your smile, baby your smile... i come, alive'. it's absolutely beaaaaaaautiful

i read the line 'i can be cruel' and immediately thought of 'Selfish Son', apparently Kele likes it

But yeah i agree with most stuff said! A younger girl (7 yrs ofc) who he is dedicated to, is exploring and experimenting with other people and growing up, maybe not necessarily realising how much she's hurting him. This is tearing him apart, it seems like they're just two people in different places in life (i definitely know the feeling) where the relationship is sexually based ('bedroom eyes'/spanish guitar') and uneven levels of commitment.

Bloc Party – Biko Lyrics 15 years ago
incredible song, but i think these are the correct lyrics in this verse:
So I keep writing these songs for you
To steal you from your grey
And we can dance in our front room again

So 'grave' is actually 'grey' and 'a front row' is 'our front room' :)

but then again, the official lyrics also has 'Was my love strong enough to bring you back from the dead' without the 'not' so maybe it isn't entirely correct.. which is totally ironic considering they wrote the lyrics! But i think it is definitely 'grey' and 'front room'

IMO the line 'Cause I love my mind, when i'm fucking you' completes the song; all of it is so romantic, so soft without any sexual passion, which seriously isn't possible in a relationship. The line strikes a perfect balance between love and desire.

This song actually makes me cry, I absolutely adore it. Bloc Party are fucking amazing.
