What exactly does a "typical whore" do? Um, accepts money in exchange for sex. I don't think that's what the narrator is saying though, he seems to be angry with his lover, and "typical whore" is just the worst insult he can come up with. It's not terribly descriptive, or apt, it's just a vague notion about promiscuity slung at the object of his anger. The laziness of this really pisses me off. At its best, it's sloppy songwriting resulting in casual sex-negativity. At worst, it's slut-shaming misogyny. I dislike this song immensely. |

| I like to think this song is about the second coming. MbD tends to focus on themes, and the second coming is a favorite of theirs. If it's accurate, it paints a dark portrait of a malicious, sadistic savior, which makes more sense to me than his more popular interpretations. | |

| So...I'm guessing it's about girls in a brothel? The line about the matroness suggests she's selling Annie like merchandise. And I further guess the narrator's offering to take one of these girls away to a better life, so she'd be placing a 'bet' on the narrator. | |

I call unreliable narrator. "I seen their faces and I know where they've been. I know I'm with 'em, but I ain't like them!" The speaker claims that he's somehow above his brothers in arms, even though he's carrying a torch that he clearly just used to help burn down a town. |
