I know it's been a while, but I'm just writing to say that I hope everything has gone ''well'' for you and that you have found your inner peace or whatever that makes you feel alive and complete. ...Reading what you wrote is like reading my diaries from some years ago.. just that.. and yeah, it does hurt a lot, still, but that's what make us to grow up and to be better people, or at least stronger, if you will. good luck. awesome lyrics and sound! |

Literally interpreting it would be like that, but what is great about placebo is that their songs are open to the meaning one can give them. I also see drugs, s-m, prostitution, loveless and destructive relationships, self cutting, unrequited love, and so on, it's up to the listener. For me none of these things (right now) make much sense really, I think it's about one night stands, being the 'me' and the 'you' the example of people who do it, when they are only two scared ones who want to be loved (even for one night) and think that through sex can find the love they lack but end up disappointed and alone 'cause the only thing that seemed to be ''a feeling'' has gone after a moment… Obviously it doesn’t fit much with the lyrics but it’s just what I think of when I listen to it. ps: I'm sorry about my english ;) |

I agree with most of you, sadisticpesimistic and googolplex specially. The whole song is about marriage, in general, what society establishes as ''right'', but personal opinions and desires are not really considered. ‘'there's nothing else to do'' in this life and that’s the justification, and if every person like you: the bride, (only some box he chose from the author eyes) and every person like ''me'' do it, it must be alright, so let's say I do and pretend we are ok as much as we can, until suddenly everything explodes and ''too much poison come undone'' because later, it'll be easier to plead 'it's only comfort calling late''. The time of the song is after the ''you may kiss the bride'' she puckers up and for him the passion is gone, he thinks over (or admits what he believes) about this sort of love: he quotes ironically the popular religious belief ''it is heaven sent'' it is sucker, it is meant to fail, it wastes everything that makes it good after a while and it could be found anywhere and ''left behind'' as he probably has done before and know he will, then sarcastically says: I know (what you're thinking or are about to say) ''I'm selfish, I'm unkind'' but he really doesn't believe that, he thinks of everybody else as ''blinded''. The moment of kissing really makes him think how huge the whole situation is ''there's never been so much in stake’’ anyways he kept going, which he compares to putting one’s head upon a plate, one more time backed up by the absolute conviction ‘’there’s nothing else to do’’ He would end up married but feeling completely alone and having no possessions but has he ever had anything indeed? ‘‘Something borrowed something blue'', a contract of marriage, sex, a legal life partner? We own nothing in this life... but there they are, just married and aware of what is about to happen to them as it was all written. |
