Envy on the Coast – Clean of You Lyrics 15 years ago
This was just posted on Ryans Tumbler...and pretty much sums up the meaning of this song =)

"After recording Lowcountry (or what we thought was Lowcountry at the time), our label told us they wanted more. They wanted the record to be the best it could be. In other words, they were still looking for a “hit single”. It was our last record to be released on that label, so they wanted to be SURE it would be a solid winner (an impossible feat), otherwise there would be no point in promoting the record. When you pour a year’s worth of work into a piece of art you’re proud of and then have to answer someone who says “It’s good…just not good enough,” you start waking up with this very bittersweet, melancholic taste in your mouth. So, after turmoil, deliberation, screaming matches, and lots of other fun…we handed them “Clean of You,” and called it a day. Following the recording of that song, I entered the first silent period of my entire life."

I think the same except the record deal part. Im prettysure envy is happy with their label, remember ryan saying in an interview that their label supported them 100%

"another correction: "who doesn't love the feeling of being a stranger, breathing *amongst all the people who you should call when you need a feeling"
from this i get the feeling that he's alluding to the sort of fame that comes along with being in a band, and how much easier it is to get girls because of it... maybe?"

Disagree completely...Ryan wouldn't brag about being in a band and getting women...never has in any of his songs and he never will. He sings about things that matter to him, and i doubt being a bigshot in a band and getting laid is one of them.

Two things im almost positive of

"I'm fed up with the process, it's nonsense. You've got to be the farthest thing from artists."
Makes sense cause it seems like he talking about record labels and executives changing the meaning of his music.

"Who doesnt love the feeling, of being a stranger, breathing amongst all the people who you should call in need of healing."
Just sounds more lyrically correct...and feeling just doesnt make any sense.
