| The Killers – Jenny Was a Friend of Mine Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
This whole song, mostly, is him lying to the police while being interrogated about her murder. He first lies and says they took a walk on the boardwalk, that they had a fight and she said she had to leave, he then held her so close that she couldn't fight back vocally and he said he'd never let her go, he loved her too much. That was all lies, of course. They really drove down to the ocean by a back road, where he smoothed her over (there was no verbal fighting) and then strangled her and threw her into the ocean. I really think the song "Bones" fits into this murder story, too. It goes into more detail into where they went and how he was feeling inside, "Don't you want to feel your bones on my bones, your skin on my skin.." He wants to know why she doesn't want him, he's jealous and I think he first tried to seduce her and get her back before he resorted to killing her. After trying to convince her to take him back he falls into hopelessness. "Never had a lover, never had a soul" He's so lost and hurt that he feels soulless and like she never really loved him. The angels in his vision were trying to convince him not to kill her. And then I think he finally loses it and "Midnight Show" is the actual murder and aftermath. Correlations: "Bones:" There's someone calling, an angel whispers my name But the message relayed is the same 'Wait till tomorrow; you'll be fine.' And it's gone to the dogs in my mind I always hear them When the dead of night comes calling "Midnight Show:" Make it go away without a word But promise me you'll stay Fix these things I've heard Or make it go away! Oh! |

| Florence + the Machine – Never Let Me Go Lyrics | 13 years ago |

This is my favorite song on the album, no doubt. I changed some of the above lyrics to what I think are correct and gave my interpretation. I see this song as being told from the view of an extremely overwhelmed person who drowns themselves in the ocean. “Looking up from underneath Fractured moonlight on the sea Reflections still look the same to me As before I went under, oh” -This puts an eerie image in my head of a person slowly descending into the depths of the ocean and contemplatively looking up. “And it's peaceful in the deep Cathedral where you cannot breathe No need to pray, no need to speak Now I am under” -No need to pray corresponds with cathedral and no need to speak corresponds with you cannot breathe. There are no expectations and you feel no need to pray or speak. You feel quiet. “And it's breaking over me A thousand miles down to the sea bed Found a place to rest my head” -She had to go a thousand miles down to the sea bed to find a place to rest her head, that’s really sad. The world is chaotic to her and she finds no peace in it. She finally feels that her mind and soul can rest. “And the arms of the ocean are carrying me And all this devotion was rushing out of me And the questions of heaven, for a sinner like me But the arms of the ocean deliver me” -She’s set free from the exhausting devotion that she felt in her life towards other people, lifestyles, religion, etc. She doesn’t know if she can get into heaven--feels pressured into religion and dogmatic doctrines in the world that say she must live a certain way to be guaranteed access to heaven. But she feels that the ocean has delivered her, the peace and simplicity of it. “Though the pressure's hard to take It's the only way I can escape It seems a heavy choice to make But now I am under, oh” -The pressure of the water is intense, drowning is the perceived escape, killing oneself is a hard decision to make, but she’s already under, oh. ... “And it's over and I'm going under But I'm not giving up I'm just giving in” -She’s drowning, blacking out. She’s justifying her suicide by telling herself that she’s just giving in to the ocean’s power, not giving up on life. (But we all know the truth.) ... “In the arms of the ocean, so sweet and so cold And all this devotion I never knew at all And the clutches of heaven for a sinner released And the arms of the ocean deliver me” -I think she’s looking back and thinking about the fact that she never knew for sure if heaven existed but she thinks that since she’s committing suicide the question of heaven is gone, she doesn’t expect to go there, she thinks heaven has released any hold it had on her soul. She doesn’t know where she will go, maybe nowhere. She just knows that the ocean is taking her away. “Never let me go…” -I think that’s her mind screaming to the ocean to never let go of her, or maybe it’s screaming out to any merciful almighty being who might spare her soul as she moves into the unknown of death. |

| MGMT – We Care Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
When we see your blue planet we feel tingly inside Spaceship cold from the vacuum of space traveling Kittens hatch by the dozen, we feel tingly inside Burn and burn the reactor churns In our hands, in our heads, the spaceship, the spaceship, the arctic planet (Oh-whoa-oh-oh-oh) We are alone, the world is not our home! We breathe the air, we care! We feel the pain, we cannot explain, there are no words to be heard! When we get where we're going we feel tingly inside Eyes that glow like a burning dwarf In our hands, in our heads, the spaceship, the spaceship, the arctic planet (Oh-whoa-oh-oh-oh) We are alone, the world is not our home! We breathe the air, but we care! We feel the pain, we cannot explain, there are no words to be heard! A child's face is lost in outer space, his eyes are red, in our heads! We move along, we are pretty strong We breathe the air, but we care! We are alone, the world is not our home! We breathe the air, but we care! We feel the pain, we cannot explain, there are no words to be heard! A child's face is lost in outer space, his eyes are red, in our heads! We move along, we are pretty strong We breathe the air, but we care! But we care! But we care! But we care! But we care! |

| MGMT – We Don't Care Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Step out of your skin, put it in a jar I thought they were my friends but they were cannibals Where should I begin in telling you what I am? I'm a normal alien We thought we were alone, but we had just started We thought we left home, but we never departed There's poison in the air, but we don't care Tell you what I'll do We could fall in love Take me home with you, I'll do what you want Put me in a lab, splice all of my genes We can fall in love again We thought we were alone, but we had just started We thought we left home, but we never departed There's poison in the air, but we don't care We thought we were alone, but we had just started We thought we left home, but we never departed There's poison in the air, but we don't care We thought we were alone, but we had just started We thought we left home, but we never departed There's poison in the air, but we don't care We thought we were alone, but we had just started We thought we left home, but we never departed There's poison in the air, but we don't care But, we don't care We don't care We don't care We don't care We don't care (don't care) But we don't care (don't care) But we don't care (don't care) But we don't care (don't care) But we don't... |

| MGMT – Kids Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Okay, this is how I interpret the song but it may have a totally different meaning behind it, I don't know. I think that this song is about multiple things, mainly kids in general and how people nowadays are having kids without much thought and how they're also destroying rain forests without much thought. "You were a child, crawlin' on your knees toward it, makin' Momma so proud But your voice is too loud We like to watch you laughin' You pick the insects off plants, no time to think of consequences" OK, with that first line I picture a young man and young woman (not married) who have this baby who's crawlin' on his knees, makin' his Momma so proud. But, they're young and they're ignorant and they enjoy the baby when he's crawling and laughing but when he's being loud and crying all night they just don't know how to handle it and they get a little sick of him. I think the insects and consequences is mainly just a little baby, who doesn't know any better, picking insects off of plants and he's a baby so he doesn't think about the consequences, he just does it and I think this line also relates to the parents and how they got pregnant with this baby and didn't think of the "consequences." And maybe the picking the insects off plants also relates to damaging the environment. "Control yourself, take only what you need from it A family of trees wanted to be haunted" I think control yourself is aimed at the child-(people in general) and telling him-(them) to take only what he-(they) needs from the planet. The family of trees line is the one I'm still really unsure about, I suppose it's relating to environmental things and maybe a family tree, I'm not really sure. "The water is warm but it's sendin' me shivers A baby is born, cryin' out for attention The memories fade, like lookin' through a fogged mirror Decisions to decisions are made and not bought but I thought this wouldn't hurt a lot, I guess not" And here's where it gets tricky. I can see how the water is warm but it's sendin' me shivers could be about the water in a birthing tub (sending him shivers because his baby is being born into it) and also the water in a river or some body of water being warm (global warming) but it's sending you shivers because it's polluted and disgusting. And the baby is born part relates back to the warm water in the birthing tub. The memories fade, fogged mirror, are kinda like the family of trees in that they leave me a little confused. Decisions, pregnancy, being a parent, thought it wouldn't hurt and it'd be easy but I guess not. Overall, I think this a very controversial song and I can see how the lyrics are about babies and parenting and also about environmental stuff. |

| I've read that book a few times. It's my Mom's favorite book... it's very sad. I think that that theory could apply to "Control yourself, take only what you need from it..." But I still can't totally figure out "A family of trees wanted to be haunted..." Those are the only lyrics that still baffle me. | |
| MGMT – Grutu (Just Becuz/Just a Little Judas Tonic) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| OK, upon listening to this song countless more times I think the first part of the chorus is "Life that fears come from, is hopeless from the start" though I don't know exactly what that means. | |
| MGMT – Hot Love Drama Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
OK, since the lyrics on display now have tons of spelling errors, etc. I'm posting the correct lyrics here. (Ah!) All of these voices on my TV, they got nothing to say We are all are people, some of us free, some of us got it made What's the connection? Some of us sing, some of us fall in love But when I need it, you bring me things, I always knew that you would Hot love drama, it rips you apart And, cool down, love, too hot from the start Hot love drama, it rips you apart And, cool down, love, too hot from the start (Too hot from the start) When I was younger life was all magic, everything fell in place But I still worry, worry for hours, imagining the life we're in, without a sleep But you came And you saw And you spoke And I conquer most fears, but not all And you stop But, I'll falter I love her--I don't And you think that I'm foolish Stop the kids, stop the love, that leads to... Hot love drama, it rips you apart And, cool down, love, too hot from the start Hot love drama, it rips you apart And, cool down, love, too hot from the start (Too hot from the start) (Too hot from the start) Hot love drama, it rips you apart Cool down, love, too hot from the start Hot love drama, it rips you apart Cool down, love, too hot from the start (Too hot from the start) (Too hot from the start) (Ooh.. Ahhh! O-ooh...) |

| MGMT – Everything's Happenin' So Fast Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Tinseltown is coming like a giant bleeding heart And I'm so mad! Well, these kids try to be funny, man But I don't think it's happened much so we must destroy your art And you'll be glad that you stopped sinning, and stopped carin' about trying to do New things are a dream that every single person has But it's not real Well, I know I'm not too eloquent! But things go by so quickly I can scarcely stop to grasp the things I'm feelin' now, and I don't doubt that everyone can feel it too Everything is happenin' so fast! (Everything is happenin' so fast) Everything is happenin' so fast! (Everything is happenin' so fast) Nature is to blame for the things we cannot tame, SO LET'S DESTROY IT! Oh. I don't know about you but I feel like a barbarian, man, stop me if you can! When the poison drips... do you create the same type of graph available at your fingertips When the poison drips... it drips Everything is happenin' so fast! (Everything is happenin' so fast) Everything is happenin' so fast! (Everything is happenin' so fast) Everything is happenin' so fast! (Everything is happenin' so fast) Everything is happenin' so fast! (Everything is happenin' so fast) |

| MGMT – Grutu (Just Becuz/Just a Little Judas Tonic) Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I think this is how it goes: Oh my God, I'm being born This is what the future holds One step in the right direction Mother's milk keep me from infection See me dance in my little boots I wasn't born to follow the rules I never learned what a bottle was Now I'm sucking on it just because And if you want to take a chance I feel for you, I feel for you And as it stands, as it stands Life that is confined, is hopeless from the start Dreams that never end, begin to fall apart All my joys and pains, will never equal love It's because, just because Hey, hey, take a look at me now! Don't you want to know about me now? Little baby is your worst fucking nightmare Applesauce thrown out of my highchair You can't stop me 'cause you're not allowed to You can't stop me 'cause I told you not you You can't stop me 'cause I just won't budge You can't stop, baby, just because And if you want to take a chance I feel for you, I feel for you But as it stands, as it stands Life that is confined, is hopeless from the start Dreams that never end, begin to fall apart All my joys and pains, will never equal love It's because, just because Life that is confined, is hopeless from the start Dreams that never end, begin to fall apart All my joys and pains, will never equal love It's because, just because Just because Just because The only part that I'm still not totally sure about is the the first part of the chorus. "Life that is/feels confined/ Life that is/feels confound/ Life that fears come from" I'm still not sure which one it is (or if it even is one of those!) But "Life that is confined" makes the most sense to me. "Life that is confined, is hopeless from the start." Meaning if you try to hold someone back and not let them venture out then they're hopeless. I guess he's talking about a child. I don't think he's saying "Life that is gone far" what the heck does that even mean? |
