| Some mistakes in there. But yeah, I really think this song is about the "wayward son" seeking personal justice. This could apply to the Cowboy era. | |

I believe... The song is about "the wayward son" seeking personal justice. The son's father was murdered. The guilty people were never charged. """Once I rose above the noise and confusion Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion I was soaring ever higher But I flew too high""" 'noise and confusion' = usually happens when killing someone. 'beyond this illusion' = he cant believe he really killed someone. 'soaring ever higher' = metaphor. he felt it was right. 'but I flew too high' = he knew he went above the law. """Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man Though my mind could think I still was a mad man I hear the voices when I'm dreaming I can hear them say" 'eyes could I still was a blind man' = metaphor, ignoring the law. 'mind could think I still was a mad man' = he avenged his father's death. he followed the heart. he ignored the mind. """Masquerading as a man with a reason My charade is the event of the season And if I claim to be a wise man, well It surely means that I don't know""" 'masquerading as a man with a reason' = in the eyes of the law, he has no valid reason to avenge his father's death. but he thinks otherwise. 'my charade is the event of the season' = the stories that are being told by the news networks. 'and if I claim to be a wise man' = he knows he is going against the law. 'It surely means that I don't know' = he does not know of other solutions. """Carry on my wayward son They'll be peace when you are done Lay your weary head to rest Don't you cry no more""" This is the voice he hears in his head. He feels as if his was father wants him to avenge him. To hunt everyone down (responsible for his father's death) and the voice, tells him not to cry. Although, he misses his father a lot. """Carry on, you will always remember Carry on, nothing equals the splendor Now your life's no longer empty Surely heaven waits for you""" To continue to look for the the people who killed his father. To remember his father. Nothing is better than personal justice. And surely heaven waits for you, his father is in heaven. Peace inside himself. Feeling good about the personal justice. JUST MY TWO CENTS! |

| Secondhand Serenade – Fall For You Lyrics | 15 years ago |

This song is about a guy who cheated on his girlfriend/wife. He realized he made the biggest mistake ever, the girlfriend/wife is losing the trust she had for him. And she is in the slow process of leaving him. The guy thinks that commiting suicide is the only way that the girlfriend/wife will realize that he really cant live without her. ""this is not what i intended i always swore to you i'd never fall apart you always thought that i was stronger i may have failed, but i have loved you from the start"" *He fell apart when she found out that he cheated. They have been fighting ever since. She accepted his apology but the trust is still fading. He realizes his 'big' mistake. This is shown in other verses. ""the best thing about tonight's that we're not fighting could it be that we have been this way before? i know you don't think that i am trying i know you're wearing thin down to the core"" *He remembers the days they trusted each other. The happy times. He is trying to gain her trust back, but she cant trust him ever again. She thought that he was "stronger" and that he would never cheat. ""but hold your breath because tonight will be the night that i will fall for you over again <-- literally means falling don't make me change my mind <-- don't talk me out of it i won't live to see another day <-- I'm gonna kill myself i swear it's true <-- for real because a girl like you is impossible to find <-- cuz i don't wanna live without you you're impossible to find"" ""so breathe in, so deep breathe me in i'm yours to keep but hold on to your words 'cause talk is cheap and remember me tonight when you're asleep"" *He told her he would never cheat, she believed him. She trusted him. Now he admits by ""but hold on to your words"" that he should not have lied and cheated. So this time around he is not going to lie and that he is going to go through with the suicide. |
