Beirut – Port of Call Lyrics 13 years ago
I think in your interpretation, the girl may have been himself, and observing himself as how he used to be. I think he's bathing in the nostalgia of how he w=once was growing up in Santa Fe, and in this song He's finally accepting and loving who he's come to be, maybe after returning to Santa Fe or his own port of call for the first time after a while away from home.

Dear and the Headlights – Mother Make Me Golden Lyrics 13 years ago
This song always makes me really sad. I'm 16 and just realizing my childhood is almost over, and it feels like too much of it was wasted. Now I'm driving, getting letters from college, and I see my friends growing up and becoming adults. I want to stay a kid forever, but I know that that can't really happen. I'll have to grow up sooner or later, but I guess I shouldn't dwell on this and enjoy it while I still can. If only everyone felt the same way and the "real world" was more like this, when the only wars we had were with ants, and jobs and business weren't taken so seriously. I also think its funny how kids look forward to growing up, but once there you just want to go back and stay forever.

Typhoon – The Sickness Unto Death Lyrics 13 years ago
To me, this whole album is about a fight with depression, and this is him reflecting on what he's learned, but it still sounds like he's wrestling with himself. With the title it has I guess it could also be him realizing that he's about to die and sort of accepting it. At least that's what this song is to me.

The Shins – Split Needles Lyrics 15 years ago
pulling pins out of the hole indside the hole your in = rebeling against those forcing him to grow up. but in the end he loses (You're old enough, boy,Too many summers you've enjoyed,So spin the wheel,We'll set you up with some odd convictions). Once he grows up he gets stuck with some job no one wants and he had no say in whether he got it or not

The Shins – Turn On Me Lyrics 15 years ago
i think that the whole album forms a story, almost like its an 11 movement compostion. Its about a boy who starts to give up, and question things like religion, why hes alive, etc. In this song he is very angry and disgusted with someone. That the other person always had to be in charge(You always had to hold the reigns, But where I'm headed, you just don't know the way.)

Sufjan Stevens – Chicago Lyrics 15 years ago
this song reminds me of better times. it has nothing to do with the lyrics though. im not exactly sure why it reminds me of this, but it always makes me think of when i was going out with this girl who i loved to death. when she broke up with me, i cried my eyes out. a hole was punched into my heart that not even the Atlantic Ocean could fill (coming from me, and how much i love the sea, that really says alot).

But anywways, i think this song is about trying to escape from knowledge and all the hustle and bustle of modern life. to lose yourself with God and going into Chicago to do this. life is just a journey to find peace with God. Once you have accomplished this you will be able to die. But you wont be afraid. When you hear about people accepting death as it comes hurling at them, they are now at peace and are ready to go on. Now how close i have gotten to God after my girlfriend broke up with me, i know i will die soon. my bigggest worry is that i dont want all my friends and family to miss me when i leave. I know i got sidetracked alot but it all has some relevance.

Where he says "If I was crying
In the van, with my friend
It was for freedom
From myself and from the land
I made a lot of mistakes"

I cried a lot when i started to find ll these things about life and i belive he is crying because he knows many of the things i know, that he will be freed from the land, the Earth, and he has sinned, but he willl be forgiven.

"I fell in love again
All things go, all things go
Drove to Chicago
All things known, all things known
We sold our clothes to the state
I don't mind, I don't mind
I made a lot of mistakes
In my mind, in my mind

He fell in love again, but all things will go, they will leave you, but by making these things end, God has possibly saved you from some catistrophic event. He knows. He will make the tiniest change but it will start a chain reaction and big things change, but all for better. He performs countless miracles each day, but all very subtle.

And the " you came to take us" part is about how intensly your views on life, and just abouot everything else, change when you go through this expierience.
