Well, it certainly is about a relationship that went sour, that's for sure. This song is based on Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. (You should read it, it's a great book!) The song seems to be going back and forth into the perspectives of Lenina and John; how John hates how empty and promiscuous the new society is, and how Lenina can't seem to overcome her conditioning to understand John's crazy 'ancient' appreciation of religion and beauty. The 'hug me til you drug me, honey' is a direct quote from the book, which is a popular song in the new society that talks about the obsession with mood-enhancing drugs and sexual activity. |
