I think it's about performance anxiety, or dealing with a moment you've been both waiting for and dreading; whether it's a live show, a speech, or an "intimate evening" is up to the listener. I've waited hours for this I've made myself so sick I wish I'd stayed asleep today I never thought this day would end I never thought tonight could ever be This close to me [He's been worrying about this moment all day, wishes he was still in bed, never thought he'd finally be here, at this moment, but here it is...so close to him] Just try to see in the dark Just try to make it work To feel the fear before you're here I make the shapes come much too close I pull my eyes out Hold my breath And wait until I shake . . . [He's been going over and over this in his head.....seeing in the dark, trying to make it work in his imagination, and he's freaking himself out.] But if I had your faith Then I could make it safe and clean If only I was sure That my head on the door was a dream [But you, you're so confident, so perfect. You make it safe and effortless. Maybe my hesitation (head on the door before opening it) is just in my imagination] |

| Sleigh Bells – Crown on the Ground Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I kept singing "Sad, sad, like a crown on the ground", but "Set that crown on the ground" makes so much more sense with the other lyrics. I guess it's about swallowing your pride, and getting over yourself. |

| Be Your Own Pet – Bicycle Bicycle You Are My Bicycle Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I think the "chant" is actually: No gears, no brakes, all real, no fakes No gears, no brakes, we'll break your face (or legs?). "no reals no fakes" just wasn't making any sense (granted, this is just a fun song about fukkin shit up and tearing around on bikes). |
