| Tori Amos – Job's Coffin Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Found this on wikipedia for the Job's Coffin constellation, also called Delphinus. The first story sorta seems to fit with the tale the song is telling. 'Delphinus is associated with two stories from Greek mythology. According to the first one, the Greek god Poseidon wanted to marry Amphitrite, a beautiful nereid. She, however, wanting to protect her virginity, fled to the Atlas mountains. Her suitor then sent out several searchers, among them a certain Delphinus. Delphinus accidentally stumbled upon her and was able to persuade Amphitrite to accept Poseidon's wooing. Out of gratitude the god placed the image of a dolphin among the stars.[citation needed] The second story tells of the Greek poet Arion of Lesbos (7th century BC), a court musician at the palace of Periander, ruler of Corinth. Arion had amassed a fortune during his travels to Sicily and Italy. On his way home from Tarentum his wealth caused the crew of his ship to conspire against him. Threatened with death, Arion asked to be granted a last wish which the crew granted: he wanted to sing a dirge. This he did, and while doing so, flung himself into the sea. There, he was rescued by a dolphin which had been charmed by Arion's music. The dolphin carried Arion to the coast of Greece and left' |

I see two girls in this story. There is the one girl who is naturally beautiful, the type of girl who is constantly leered at by men. One day, one of these men decides that he wants her, decides that she is leading him on just by being beautiful. So he rapes her. The other girl is also pretty. She has sex with countless men, and has been in countless terrible relationships. She pretends that this is what she wants, but really whenever she's having sex with these men she feels physically sick. She hates herself for it, yet feels like this is what she deserves because of her low self image. |

Just thinking, ice cream is a metaphor for childhood, so it could be saying that God has robbed her of her child and it's childhood. Could also be to do with cravings, her cravings have disappeared now the baby is gone. Also, in the song it's 6.58 not 6:58. Sometimes in ultrasounds they put 6... to show how far along the baby is (6 representing 6 weeks). |

There's a lot of irony in the song. It seems pretty ironic to be addicted to nicotine patches rather than actual cigarettes. I think what she means with the words (particularly in the first verse) is that she's saying that she's so useless that she's managed to get addicted to nicotine patches. She feels this way because of her miscarriages. She feels like there's no point in trying anymore and she may just give in to the world. She used to think that she was a strong person, that she could conquer everything, but now that's all gone and she feels weak. The barrier has finally been pulled down and everyone can see how vulnerable she is. Such a sad song to start with, but I feel that in the third verse it's almost like she's fighting it, she's going to keep on trying. I'm glad she finally got Tash, she's such a lovely person to meet and her music is amazing. |

It's about Bipolar Disorder, which Justin has. The rhyming lyrics e.g. 'Relapse prevent Trigger Intent Now Drown High Strung Say X Amount of Words' are an example of the cluttered and pressured speech a Bipolar person has |

| Sum 41 – Scumfuck Lyrics | 15 years ago |

It's about a friend who died from abusing heroin. If you watch the video it's pretty obvious. The mention of the silver spoon also shows this, as most heroin abusers use a spoon. A Scumfuck is supposed to be a nickname for a grotty punk who sleeps on the streets and does hard drugs like heroin. I think the last verse is what the scumfuck/heroin user thinks, whereas the other verses are the thoughts of the band members. I think the heroin user is trying to escape from something in his life/past with the drugs. |

Sophia is a representation of wisdom and actually means wisdom in Greek. Snakes are often meant to mean wisdom, so it makes sense that Sophia in this song is shown as giving Adam and Eve the apple instead of the serpent. The serpent was sometimes seen as good instead of evil by many gnostics, as it gave knowledge (e.g. gnosis) to Adam and Eve. I agree that in the song Sophia may be calling to the demiurge and saying that there is hope, even for him. However, I think it mainly refers to the fact that the demiurge originally thought that he was the only one true God, until Sophia told him that he was not alone (meaning that there was another higher God above him). At this point, there was only darkness and the world had not been created. So the darkness which the demiurge is in could refer to the physical darkness or to the metaphorically darkness that the demiurge is in. Great song, I love Tori so much! |
