I'm sure this wasn't the meaning of the song, but there was a time when I REALLY related to this song. At the time, I was in a relationship, and how I felt was pretty much exactly described by the first lines: "I don't know if I've ever been good enough. I'm a little bit rusty, and I think my head is caving in. And I don't know if I've ever been really loved by a hand that's touched me, and I feel like something's gonna give. And I'm a little bit angry." And then, the chorus. I didn't really want to push him around, but I wanted to know that I had enough of an effect on him that I could make some sort of difference. And I wished that I had the confidence in the relationship to take t for granted. (I wanna push you around well I will, well I will I wanna push you down well I will, well I will I wanna take you for granted I wanna take you for granted yeah, well I will) So yeah, that song got me through a lot of those days just driving around alone, and realizing how alone i felt. I'm glad that's over. |

I think I actually do get the cigar line. Not long ago, I reconnected with a friend from my childhood, who now has a small child of her own. So, to me, it's entirely strange seeing her with a child, because I still remember her as the 8 year old I watched Disney movies with. Similarly, smoking is an "Adult" thing, so i imagine it might be unsettling to picture someone as a child, and watching them do something adult. |
