Definitely what I think 100%. I think this is how Tegan felt right after she came out. To TheWrongGirl: This was probably her feelings from a while ago, and she decided to write the song because its a part of her past. I've NEVER seen Tegan cry like she does on stage while playing it in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BD82nbkq7ro With all of the gay rights supporting Tegan does, I wouldn't doubt she feels strongly about her past with coming out. |

I think this song means Tegan coming out of the closet. "So what I lied, I lie to me too." She once said she denied her sexuality. And now she needs everyone to be there for her now, to accept her. "Hold out for the ones you know will love you. Hide out from the ones you know will love you too." Just be who you are, even if that person won't accept who you really are. I'm convinced this has nothing to do with Tegan's personal relationship with someone else, but rather her own relationship with being homosexual. Because we live in an intolerant world, dark is the only time she can escape from it, and be at peace...in her dreams. "Dark, you can't come soon enough for me." I can very much relate to this song. I've gone through (and still going through) acceptance to family and friends about my own sexuality. So I can relate. |
