To me, this song is about almost cheating on someone, and confessing to it, then asking for the person to react angrily so they can sort it out and put it behind them. "I give my gun away when it's loaded " - As well as the sexual connotations of the loaded gun, I think this means that the singer is giving them the confession to their cheating and allowing them to use it as a weapon. "If you don't shoot it how am I supposed to hold it?" - "If you don't get angry about this, how am I supposed to know we can forget about it and move on?" "Is that all right?" It's about a guy called Jimmy he served with in the army. The guy used to take his guitar everywhere, he used to strap it to the tank and stuff, and he taught James how to play. Then the poor guy got blown up a couple of months before his tour was over. So I think this song is like a tribute to him, but Jimmy wasn't the kinda guy to want a sad song written about him. Juding by the song, the guy was quite badass. Or maybe passionate. R.I.P Jimmy. |

i kinda agree with tom... i don't think it's about someone who's depressed, i think the song is about someone who's moody on purpose and the person singing the song is quite an optimistic person (which is why the song's quite upbeat) who's maybe tired of trying to cheer them up and is just not bothered and a bit sarcastic towards them now... it does remind me a lot of House, and a little bit of Lockwood's (is that his name? i haven't read the book in aaages) first impression of Heathcliffe in Wuthering Heights |

i think it's about alcoholicness (yeah, i don't know what exactly it's called, i'm not a clever person) like the girl in the first verse is scared to drink it in case she gets addicted then the chorus is about how it can ruin homes and families, and how you can get injured when you're drunk, and how it can make you lose everything and then in the second verse the bottle the guy thinks he might love is the bottle of alcohol and it sys that kids will follow the example and drink too hen he little two line bit about a funeral mans that since the wake is a party everyone will probably get drunk. i think. as i said, i'm not clever, so i'm probably wrong. :L |
