Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) Lyrics 15 years ago
To me this song is about the beauty of childhood, as well as how sad it is when one's child like mind goes away. The first verse makes me think of two friends who are young children, and the things they think of doing when their parents are crying and it's snowing, whether it's literal or metaphorical. The beginning of the second verse "Then we tried to name our babies, But we forgot all the names that, The names we used to know" to me makes me think of young children planning their futures with each other, and something they could plan is the names of their future babies. But eventually, little things like that are forgotten in growing up, just like we all have childlike memories and ideas we would invent with our friends that are eventually forgotten.

At least that's what I got from it, I don't really think of two lovers when I listen to this song. I love the way Win Butler sings "The names we used to know!", there's just so much emotion and it's obvious he's upset about forgetting. Beautiful song.

I can't believe no one's commented on this song! To me the lyrics are sung so beautifully, especially the line "their work is so hard". This song stands alone as a poem as well, and the writer seems completely genuine in his admiration for the spider's hard work, which is what I think this song is about. Nothing too complicated, just simple and beautiful, written for the sake of being written.
