So this song describes a guy who just got out of a relationship with a girl that he has been with for a really long time. The relationship turned out to be a struggle towards the end, so getting out of it felt like "coming out of [his] cage". He's doing just fine because he is free from that relationship. He wants it all, meaning he can't wait to see what life will be like without this girl weighing him down. It was way more than he wanted from the very beginning- "it started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this? it was only a kiss". Now shes moved on and she's seeing a new guy and he cant help but feel a little jealous. Like the House of Heroes song Pulling Back the Skin says: "No I don't want you back, but I don't want you with him. No, I don't love you still, I hate him so though". He's conflicted because he still might have feelings for her, but he knows that there is no way in hell that he wants their relationship back. Still, he can't get the image of her touching this guy's chest as him taking off her dress out of his head. His mind is going crazy and coming up with these scenarios. He is worried that he is still attracted to her, but he doesn't want her back. The chorus continues as his imagination runs wild with jealousy and sick lullablies... Know matter how many "alibis" he comes up with, his heart is still with her... he can't change that. But he realizes that he has to move on from her, he can't stay stuck on her because he has bigger and better things to do with his life. He can't wait to see what the future holds so he is "openning up his eager eyes". Bottom line, he has always been Mr. Brightside, and he can't change that now. He has to continue to see the glass half full or he will never move on from her. I believe this is the only answer to this song, because I am going throught all of this right now with this girl that I had been dating for a year and a half. This song is a perfect explanation of everything that i am feeling./ |

Get over it. This song is far from the best put out by weezer, but youre crazy if u think its the worst. Its actually pretty good. It's saying that we all criticize the people in society who have drug addictions or alcoholism, but really WE ALL HAVE OUR OWN DRUG that we are addicted to. We all have something that we can't let go of, and that's what this song is about. |

hey guys. obviously the whole cio-cio san section is about madame butterfly, but when i first heard the song this is how i took it... kind of interesting: He has been having doubts about his girlfriend and if she likes him still or not. so he reads her diary and finds out that Cio-Cio San (a nickname for his japanese girlfriend, because hes so angry) is cheating on him (..."fall in love all over again"...) obviously this isn't true but it's still kinda interesting. |
