This song is just dead sexy. And why do I always picture Norah in a pinstriped suit, fondling a cigar with a wreath of smoke around her head in this dive of a strip joint when I hear this? Hmmm? Got this one on my Stone and I play it way too much...of course she could sing Happy Birthday and make it sound "sultry" (I hate that word). |

Strange, but true. I'm sitting in a Shoney's in SWVA at a meeting about a women's business conference entitled, "Dream Big". So, I'm noshing on my fries while we're talking and this song comes on over the intercom. I literally stopped eating to listen to the words of this, since everytime prior to this I'd heard Steven Tyler screaming like a banshee on this. And it was MAGICAL. Brooke's version of this is so full of genuine yearning and I get such a sense of "missed opportunities" when she sings it. Unlike the Aerosmith vsn which just makes me want to put my fist through the windshield of my car because I'm so angry over what I have missed. Her version brings the tears. Aerosmith's makes my blood boil. Incredible that two completely different artists could induce such strong responses from the same song. GOOD STUFF...glad she did this one. |

This song chronicles the love affair between these people. For some reason, in my mind I always picture them together at the onset of WW2-he's getting ready to head out because he's been drafted. They've got very little time left and no promises that he's coming back; so they consummate their relationship right there. Time is of the essence...and he desperately wants to come back to her and have this for the rest of his life. We FF to the last couple of stanzas and that's how it came to be...they did have a chance to make a go of it and now here they are in advanced years looking out over the harvest of their lives and their desires have come to fruition-just like the crops around them. I love this song, because much like, "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer, this is poetry set to music. I love how lyrical the words roll even when you're reading this. It's perfection, IMHO. PEACE! |

This song is so rich...for someone who wrote this because he was snowbound, he must have really been ruminating during this storm! Anyway, I agree that this is the other side of "And So It Goes" (one of my fave BJ songs ever...) and it is all about not having our minds color our present with our past. We have to give the new people and new situations that come to us a chance...no matter if a similar situation blew up in our face before. This song is all about being mature enough to say, "You know what, yeah that sucked big time and I don't ever wanna go through a hell like that again, but this is not that and you are not them and I think I will screw up the courage and have faith in you and in myself". THAT is what this song is about...and I think he has exemplified this through his own relationships. PEACE! |
