You know what's weird? There was a news story about a guy who dodged a bullet by bending over to pick up his Chapstick. I was convinced that was what the reference was, but this song came out three years before the news story. Brand New are prophets, no? |

this song is epic. i first heard "she said goodbye to the CROWN" my favorite parts are "those days are dead, forgive me" and "that forest burned...that forest burned..." he's obviously talking about religion with the intro, "dog in the manger", "we need vices"... a criticism of religion i think. |

well, i was confused/amused when i first heard this because i thought he said "semen galoshes"...that's really what it sounds like, because he pronounces "cement" weirdly anywho, this is a great song, really grew on me. it's obviously partially about the Taking Back Sunday/YFW/Deja days, with its references to "the sister," "cosmonaut," "you could never work well with our group," etc. and obviously about luca brasi from the godfather...i think of it more as an analogy than what the song is really about. i think jesse felt like luca brasi with the TBS rivalry and all that. also: scared the hell out of me when the end part came on. i remember thinking "this is brand new, they're gonna start screaming," but i was still terrified when it happened. |

I must be listening to a different version, because certain parts are different. And the end part about "I should be laughing now" isn't there. Weird. Here's what I hear...not saying it's right, but it's what I hear. Kate, it's your ride Get your petals out Lay them in the aisle Pretend you are God and grow, it's your day to wed We've found your man He is drinking up He's all-American And he'll drive He's volunteered with grace to end your life We'll tidy up It's sad to hold Leave your shell to us You explode You firefly, you tiny boat with oars Feather oars The world tilts back, and pours and pours and so You satellite You tidal wave, you're a big surprise And I, one more night to be your mother The signal interrupts This baby's frequency not strong enough Remain in my hands and smile We will miss you but in time you'll get settled We will ride Supreme Yeah, you were right about me But can I get myself out from underneath This guilt that will crush me? And in the choir, well I saw our sad Messiah He was bored and tired of my laments Said "I'd die for you one time, but never again" Never again, never again, never again, never again Never again, never again, never again, never again Well I love you so much But do me a favor, baby don't reply 'Cause I can dish it out, but I can't take it (One, two, three, four, five, six, seven) |

This song is about the Titanic. I know it sounds random, but bear with me... "Who's in a bunker?" This is about the people stuck in the rooms on the ship - not literally bunkers, but very much like them. "Women and children first" On the Titanic, the women and children were the first to be saved. "I'll laugh until my head comes off I'll swallow until I burst" This references drowning - your lungs burst when you drown. "I have seen too much You haven't seen enough You haven't seen it" The experience of being on the ship while it sinks, that outsiders can never know. "Here I'm allowed everything all of the time" One of the most pivotal lyrics. The passengers on the Titanic were by and large wealthy and sheltered. All of their whims were indulged - the ship was extremely extravagant, built to suit their opulence. They could have whatever they wanted. Until the ship sank... "Ice age coming Let me hear both sides Ice age coming Throw it on the fire" This is about crashing into the iceberg. Some people claimed there was no danger, hence "both sides". "We're not scaremongering This is really happening" See above. Some people insisted there was nothing to worry about...but obviously, there was. |
