Cynic – Adam's Murmur Lyrics 15 years ago
I actually sent Paul a email about this song because I wanted to 1. see how on point I was with my interpretation (It is a song dealing with the creation of man, and Astral Projection through meditation) and 2. Hear the truth, so with out further a due...

"Adam's Murmur is very much about what your describing, along with the chakras or "energy centers" in the body. Chakras in sanskrit are defined as "wheels". The teacher / author Carolyn Myss was a source of inspiration. Hope this helps a little!"

-Paul

It can be broken down really simply but still an exquisite piece of music

Feet to hip
Leaf to breast [This is Naive to Breast]
Throat to brain
And skin arrange
(creation of man from the ground up)

Reviving memories, to every blade of grass, the universal path
A primal energy, a creation is born, unsympathetic chords? [I believe this lyric is on sympathetic chords.]
(A journey through projection is began and takes the traveler back to the creation of man, the universal path is the path in which one follows to arrive at their destination when projecting and is also the path that every man must walk as a human being.)

Hearing Adam's murmur
(Later in the song it is mentioned that he taps his heart and feels a hole in his chest, the murmur is a heart condition that would lend its self to sounding as if their is a hole in the heart or a missing piece.)

A sanskrit alphabet
(The language mentioned in his email, tying the songs ideas/theme of Chakra and Hinduism to the more Christian story of creation, this also ties the beliefs of "one soul" to the song by merging the practices and beliefs of two separate religions.)

Unholy apple tree
(reference to the story of creation and the source of man's distance from god, our initial sin)

Seven flowers
(the seven chakra points of the body, and natural energy)

holes in our trunks [I believe this is "a hole inside my chest"]
I tap her to test? [and this I think is "I tap my heart to test"]
Harmony within
A merciful creation

(If I am correct about the lyrical change it could be making reference to the rib removed from Adam to make Eve, tapping his heart to test that his new mate is real and not a dream. She brings to him a harmony that he had previously not had and was a creation born of god's mercy, feeling Adam's need for companionship. OR... the hole is a heartache caused from the folly of man and detachment from god. He taps his heart to test that he is still alive and well after the pain of separating himself from God has hit him so hard Then he is put in a state of harmony upon realizing he is still whole. We are truly a merciful creation and even though we go against gods will he is still understanding of our choice because he gave us free will.)

Now we're one soul
(we are all traveling on the same path as one collective humanity, one soul.)

at least that is what I got out of it.
