This song is quite clear, and several have already stated something like this. It's about putting other things above God, specifically mentioning sex and lust (including porn), greed, and anything else that people struggle with. The bible says that our bodies are a temple of the holy spirit, and I think this is the meaning behind, "When I am God, this church is unsound." It means his entire life is not in order. He knows he's not accomplishing anything for God's kingdom, he's not helping people, he's living a life for himself, with no purpose. For the author, it involves sexual temptation and sin, but it leaves the door open to include other "gods" that we put before the one true God. Having experience with women who give their bodies to men, he implores them to think about what their true value is. This is a beautiful song that shows the violence of the struggle that we all face. Our society places such emphasis on materialism, sex, physical beauty, drugs, success, pleasure in any form, and constantly tells us that these are the things that are of value. When we adopt these views, we worship these things, and we don't give God what He deserves, and what He calls us to give Him. This leaves us shallow, wandering people whose souls cry out for healing - which the author finds when he rejects the gods he's put first in his life. |

I can't believe there isn't more discussion on this song. It's probably because people come on hear and start talking about how much they like the song or the band instead of the meaning of the song (which might be the purpose of this website, just my opinion, I could be wrong). There's no doubt that P.S. has to do with porn, no what the title is intended to stand for. As somebody who's felt the intense draw of free porn available 24/7, and who is now married (no kids yet), this song creates a stinging picture of how powerful porn can be, and how it creates fear over how it will affect others in our lives. This is an absolutely gripping song. Unfortunately, it was year after I heard this song that I finally rid my life of porn. And it's still a challenge. That junk is all around us, it's everywhere we go. It's even in our minds. It's in the checkout line at the grocery store. This is such a battle for many men. Porn is as addictive as any drug you can think of. And more than that, there's no test for it. You can bring it to work with you. You can travel with it in your car. You can't be arrested for it. It is psychologically and spiritually damaging. That's why Project wrote this song. And that's why so many people identify it. Don't dismiss porn as normal. It destroys relationships and families, gives men unrealistic expectations for women, and treats women like objects to fulfill sexual desire. When we say porn is natural, no wonder people in our society are so screwed up. |

DEC2012, yours is the only post that makes any sense at all - I think everybody else must be 11 years old or younger. Hey, does anybody else want to mention it has to do with the Wizard of Oz? The problem with this site is that people want to include useless posts. It's called song meanings not how much I love this band, OMG!
Back to DEC2012, I got the idea it was about his struggle b/t wanting to settle down and make a home and his constant drive to be promiscuous (see polyamorous). I think I'd go as far as to say he was talking to/about a woman who was everything he would want in a wife/partner for life, but he's still struggling. He wants to commit, but can't, and is afraid that he'll lose her if he doesn't. It's a constant mental battle, and a paradox. He wants her, but can't bring himself to sacrifice the part of him that has to go to give her what she needs, while at the same time he knows that she has what he needs. There, maybe there's a second post that somebody will actually find helpful. |
