| Faelys, I believe that the the line "Off the wagon and back onto the stool" is talking about drinking again. Perhaps the person was sober, and then "fell off the wagon" and began drinking again. As for the "and back onto the stool" part, it could be about getting back onto a bar stool to get drunk. Just an idea, but I think it could work well. | |

I really liked Taylor's VMA performance of this song, and although I believe it is about Kanye West, I still think it is a great song and could be interpreted however you like. Here is my interpretation of the song (about Kanye): "But some things you can't speak of But tonight you'll live it all again" These lines are talking about how most people don't talk that much about it anymore, however tonight he will have to re-live what he did last year. "You wouldn't be shattered on the floor now If only you had seen what you know now then" The first line is about how people wouldn't say negative things about him (shattered on the floor) if he didn't do it and the second line is about how if he knew what it would have caused, he probably wouldn't have done it. Like melodious10 mentioned about the line "32 is still growing up now", I think that is a reference to Kanye, since he was 32 at the last VMA's. "Who you are is not what you did" Basically saying that just because you do one stupid thing, it does not shape who you are or who you've become. "Time turns flames to embers You'll have new Septembers" The first part of the first line is about how after the 09 VMA's, everyone way talking about the "Kanye-Taylor thing". The whole incident was burning hot (flames) and you saw it everywhere. The second part is about how with time, the 'flames' have died down to 'embers' and now people don't talk about it as much. The second line is about how there will be more VMA's (they happen in September) Although, I think this song is about the Kanye West thing, I still really like it. I believe Taylor may have wrote it to finally achieve closure with the whole incident. |

I completely agree with what Reedstar and andsoshedanced said. Especially about the voice speeding up and becoming more frantic near the end of the song, and the line being changed from; "Yes, two can keep a secret if one of them is dead." to "Yes, two can keep a secret if one of US is dead." Also, I think it's funny (and a little ironic) how this song is the theme to Pretty Little Liars, and they say the name Allison in it. |

Alright, I agree with both Fallen Leaves and music_-freak. Let me try to explain; As Fallen Leaves said, the narrators life has been difficult and has suddenly become great. The rain represents the bad and the sun the good. However, as for the lines; "And I can feel the water changing me, It's changing me for good." I think that the "water" (not the rain) is actually the good in life and he is being immersed in all of the good. It is changing him into a different person. A person who is happy. However, he doesn't want to change. He is used to his old life of depression and anger and it feels safe to him, but he's losing control and the "water" is changing him into a person who is happy and enjoying life. "Bite down hard, Bite down." In these lines, I believe he is realizing that he's going to be changed for the better, wether he wants to or not. He doesn't enjoy it, but he is relinquishing control and surrendering to the happiness. He is bracing himself for what's going to happen next. I know it's complicated, and I may be completely wrong, but this is how I view the song's meaning. |

This is an amazing song! I think my favorite lyric in the song is "Falling a thousand feet per second You still take me by surprise" Defiantly one of their best songs. |
