Gorillaz – On Melancholy Hill Lyrics 15 years ago
This was my favourite of the Plastic Beach album. Without listening to it with my usual emotional radar of sorts, its not an unhappy song. But when Im alone and listening to this it seems like the saddest song in the world to me. But in this unhappiness theres almost a sense of the rising of a spirit. In its depressing harmony, it also makes the world seem so much brighter.
However I don't get the sense he's actually singing to another person, it doesnt entirely feel like a love song.

The ne-eedy eat mayonnaise, but the word is stretched. Im quite sure its mayonnaise, I remember Damon Albarn saying something about it in an interview. But you never know, it might not be.
Lou Reed is genius in this song, I love his harsh pronounciations.
I sort of imagine a dark figure just sitting in a cave of scavenged objects, plastics, golds, electronics.

Gorillaz – Kids With Guns Lyrics 15 years ago
When I first listened to this, I was about 8 or 9. I loved Gorillaz and relapsed into a sort of reverie everytime I listened to a song. When I listened to Kids with Guns, I saw figures who were sort of half grown adults. They weren't proper adults, and they were in a sandbox. To me the song was always about the stupid ( or I saw them as stupid ) trivial battles adults had, like children bickering for space or toys. Which is what they do fight about really, land and weapons.
I also loved the use of the word "pacifier", because it meant both "a peace maker" and "a device that a child uses to suck on"
