"For I am sick of love" is a direct quote from the original in the Hebrew bible, as are several other lines. It means, in more modern language "sick from love" or love-sick. I agree that it is a very powerful song, but I think it is celebrating an urgent, yearning, all-encompassing love, rather than a loss of faith in love.
