| @[ale1990:12163] I too feel that this song is about Bowie. And Bowie wrote "Lady Stardust" about Bolan, not to mention both men had extremely androgynous looks at the time, so the "feminine" slant to the lyrics would seem to parallel that. "Diamond browed hag" and "gutter gaunt gangster" are both excellent descriptions of what Bowie physically looked like in 1972. | |
| The Beatles – Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Rubber Soul is one of my all-time favorite albums. I have to say that I never thought the "I lit the fire" line implies the singer literally set a fire. To me this song goes like this: The singer (John, who admitted to feeling very insecure and lost at this time in the Beatles career) goes home with the girl, assuming there will be sex. When she alludes to having to work in the morning and laughs, that is a clear signal that there will be no sex. My interpretation of the norwegian wood phrase is that the singer has a case of "blue balls", Norway being a cold country and wood a reference to an erection. The "I lit the fire" line to me either means that he masturbates to relieve his "norwegian wood", or that he is blaming himself for getting aroused over a girl who didn't want him. | |
| Joni Mitchell – For The Roses Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Joni is a true one of a kind original, a BRILLIANT lyricist and musician. Lyrically, only Dylan comes close to her poetry, but musically she is completely superior to him. It is my understanding that this song is not only about her ambivalance towards the music industry, but a little bit of a jab at James Taylor, with whom she had a brief affair: Remember the days when you used to sit And make up your tunes for love And pour your simple sorrow To the soundhole and your knee |

| This is a pretty song, but it sounds like they were trying to copy the sound of Joni Mitchell. Anyone who likes this song should really check out Joni, especially the songs "Ladies of the Canyon" "For the Roses" and "Hejira." Joni is incredible. | |
