Wow, I see this entirely different from the other people commenting on this song, except for the second one, at least partially... I don't think it's about an abusive relationship, or a relationship that isn't working, at all. I interpret this as one of those relationships that catch you a bit off guard. Maybe you've been used to being with someone laid back, someone that maybe takes things a bit seriously, moving slow and being thorough. And at some point that ends, and the next person you meet is the exact opposite. It's fast, it's intense, it's new and it's "go go go", no time to think, just feel and do. The part about roughing up and hurting I take more figurative than literal, like getting your hair ruffled or being exhausted, maybe getting in a bit too deep when you realise that the other person isn't as serious as you are, because you are used to being serious. This part can also be interpreted sexually. The bottom line seems to me to be "This is going so fast, such a whirlwind, I don't know where my next step will take me but I want to see, I don't want this to stop, baby don't stop." |

There are so many things wrong with the one you put up, OP... The one you've interpreted has to be a live version or something... Here's the album lyrics for you: (3x: Hook) C'mon and talk to me I will try my utmost to be honest with you Try to be honest with you Every single word C'mon and talk to me I will try my utmost to be rhythmical Try to be rhythmical (Verse 1:) I've been thinking a lot since the end of our family affair 'Bout the things that went wrong, in a matter of speaking Should have been more forthcoming about the things I needed to say But you seem to be talking to someone else Now you've got me feeling so sorry For something I didn't do You've got me crawlin' around a gutter When I should have been busy making love to you So it's all smoothed over You covered your ears real tight Is it up to me to be telling The black from the white? (Background: 5x: Hook) (Chorus:) Talkin' to you, bittersweet, bittersweet, bittersweet Not talkin' to you, bittersweet, bittersweet, bittersweet Talkin' to you, bittersweet, bittersweet, bittersweet Not talkin' to you, bittersweet, bittersweet, bittersweet (4x: Bridge) C'mon, talk, talk, talk, talk To me yeah To me yeah (Verse 2:) So what matters most in the end is beyond our big fickle reach Had to unfold all the mysteries It takes a different kind of species I'm unable to handle my weight Of all of your clouds Put in new words Now you've got me feeling so stupid When I couldn't understand You've got me reeling around in circles Incomprehensible demands (Background: 5x: Hook) (Chorus:) Talkin' to you, bittersweet, bittersweet, bittersweet Not talkin' to you, bittersweet, bittersweet, bittersweet Talkin' to you, bittersweet, bittersweet, bittersweet Not talkin' to you, bittersweet, bittersweet, bittersweet (4x: Bridge) C'mon, talk, talk, talk, talk To me yeah To me yeah (Hook) C'mon and talk to me I will try my utmost to be honest with you Try to be honest with you Every single word C'mon and talk to me I will try my utmost to be rhythmical Try to be rhythmical C'mon, talk, talk, talk C'mon and talk to me I will try my utmost to be honest with you Try to be honest with you Every single word C'mon and talk to me I will try my utmost to be rhythmical Try to be rhythmical |

| Adele – Set Fire to the Rain Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I let it fall, my heart And as it fell, you rose to claim it It was dark and I was over Until you kissed my lips and you saved me My hands, they were strong But my knees were far too weak To stand in your arms Without falling to your feet But there's a side to you That I never knew, never knew All the things you'd say They were never true, never true And the games you'd play You would always win, always win But I set fire to the rain Watched it pour as I touched your face Well, it burned while I cried 'Cause I heard it screaming out your name Your name When I laid with you, I could stay there Close my eyes, feel you here forever You and me together, nothing gets better 'Cause there's a side to you That I never knew, never knew All the things you'd say They were never true, never true And the games you's play You would always win, always win But I set fire to the rain Watched it pour as I touched your face Well, it burned while I cried 'Cause I heard it screaming out your name Your name I set fire to the rain And I threw us into the flames When we fell, something died 'Cause I knew that that was the last time The last time Sometimes I wake up by the door That heart you caught must be waiting for you Even now when we're already over I can't help myself from looking for you I set fire to the rain Watched it pour as I touched your face Well, it burned while I cried 'Cause I heard it screaming out your name Your name I set fire to the rain And I threw us into the flames When we fell, something died 'Cause I knew that that was the last time The last time, oh Oh, no Let it burn, oh Let it burn Let it burn |

| I wish I'd heard this song two weeks ago, when I broke up with my boyfriend because of this very reason that John describes. If I had known of this song, I wouldn't have had such a problem explaining what I feel. Once again John manages to capture that emotion that is so difficult to describe. I think I owe this man my life. | |
