Of Monsters And Men – Little Talks Lyrics 13 years ago
It is about the widow and the dead husband. I think it's very touching. I also think in light of this information, the "truth may vary but this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore." The truth is what happens after we die because religious interpretation of that varries, but no matter what, something is going to happen the singer believes.
Here's the article quote:
Speaking with Interview Magazine, Hilmarsdóttir explained the song's meaning: "How we usually make our lyrics is, Raggi and I, sometimes we come up with stories or situations. That one is about a relationship. Sometimes we haven't wanted to give too much away. We like people to read their own things in the lyrics. I guess I could share it. It's about a couple and the husband passed away and it's from the conversation between the two of them. We don't know if she's going crazy or if someone's actually there. We've kind of been inspired by people that lived in my house. This old couple that lived there for 30 years. The woman passed away, so it was kind of different."

Neil Young – My My, Hey Hey (Out Of The Blue) Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is not about suicide. Neil young has come out saying that this song was about his fear of becoming obsolete in the Rock n' Roll business when punk rock came in. He was saddened when Cobain used it and dedicated his album to him.

Arcade Fire – Ready to Start Lyrics 15 years ago
This is a good point because Win Bulter and Regine Chasagne were married for almost 10 years before they had their daughter (which they just had.) I think it could be about really starting your life. I also think this song could be about selling out and certain trendy friends feelings that they may have sold out by getting a corporate label.

Arcade Fire – Half Light II (No Celebration) Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this is one of those childhood "loss of innocence" "loss of idealism" songs. Also, I think it's important that while they are often listed as a Canadian Band, Win Butler is actually from Texas. He may be talking about the plight of America. My favorite line in the song is "pray to God, won't live to see the death of everything that's wild" Awesome album

Mumford & Sons – Roll Away Your Stone Lyrics 15 years ago
All of their songs are literary allusions in some way shape or form. This one is a literary allusion to Macbeth. If you are familiar with the play, it almost describes a characterization of Macbeth. "Darkness is a harsh term, don't you think? Yet, it dominates the things I see." And the line "stars hide your fires, these here are my desires" that is almost directly taken from Macbeth. I don't know them for it though, I think it's really cool. I also noticed that the song "The Cave" is a literary allusion to the story The Odyssey by Homer.

Mumford & Sons – The Cave Lyrics 15 years ago
I am surprized no one noticed this. This song is an allusion to Homer's The Odyssey. The cave is when they were at the Isle of the Lotus Eaters and Odysseus was trapped by Circe. The reason I know this song is about Odysseus is because there is a part in the song where he says "tie me to a post and block my ears, I can see widows and orphans through my tears" there was a part in the Odyssey where they were going through the water and the sea sirens(this also is in conjunction withe the part where he says "so make your siren's call and sing all you want, I will not hear what you have to say) were signing and they would cause men to go mad. Odysseus let himself be lashed to the mast to endure it so he would not go crazy. The widows and orphans refers to his wife Penelope and his song Telemachus who thought he was dead. ALso the cannibal part is where calypso turns all the men into pigs and they don't know it and are feasting on humans who she turned into pigs. All of their songs are littered with literary allusions, like that song on the album where he says "stars hide your fires, these here are my disires" that is a mismash of a line from the play Macbeth "stars hide your fires and show not by black desires."

The Waterboys – And A Bang On The Ear Lyrics 15 years ago
I think that this song is about finding the one. It chronicles the singer's past loves, (Lindsey, Norah, Deborah, Bella, Krista,) and went happened (or didn't happen) and how a small a part of you will always love them. He talks about his memories of them both good and bad, but at the end he talks about the "woman of my hearthfire, harbour of my soul," this person is essentially the one. He talks about how she is "treasure," so I think that this song is about how all the past relationships you have kind of shape you and guide you on the course to finding the one and all the things that went right or wrong make you appreciate that person all the more.
