Nightwish – Escapist Lyrics 14 years ago
Personally I Love the use of symbolizim in Nightwish lyrics, after reading many of the interpritations and along with many of my own thoughts, this is what I feel the message behind the music is.

Who's there knocking at my window?
The Owl and the Dead Boy
This night whispers my name
All the dying children

= When it says that 'this night wispers my name, all the dying children' I believe that it is trying to say that the voices of suffering has called his attention and are begging to be recognized or pointed out. The owl and the dead boy may be a contrasting refrence to innocence and wisdom that together mean something like "the wisdom of ones childhood."

Virgin snow beneath my feet
Painting the world in white
I tread the way and lose myself into a tale

= This could be describing the world how a child may see it. Pure and perfect. The person ventures into this new and stainless world and has marked their own way into a story, or being the master of their own fate.

Come hell or high water
My search will go on
Clayborn Voyage without an end

= Here what it seems to say is that no matter what, this person will persist in their desire to loose theirself in this wonderful world that they have found, not limited my any earthly lmitations.

A nightingale in a golden cage
That's me locked inside reality's maze
Come someone make my heavy heart light
Come undone bring me back to life
It all starts with a lullaby

=The nightengale could be a reprisentation of Tuomas himself being trapped in something that is beautiful on the out side and all of those that see him are like those who look at a bird in a cage, they think more of the bird's beauty instead of its condition, the bird must feel that it is imprisoned and traped within something that it could not escape.

Journey homeward bound
A sound of a dolphin calling
Tearing off the mask of man
The Tower my sole guide
This is who I am
Escapist, paradise seeker
Farewell now time to fly
Out of sight, out of time, away from all lies

= This is the decision tha this person has made to 'dare to dream' I guess one could say. They have shed off what they may have been before to try to escape the hauntings of reality. The desire they have is to simply Escape from it all "out of sight ut of time, away from all lies."

A nightingale in a golden cage
That's me locked inside reality's maze
Come someone make my heavy heart light
Come undone bring me back to life
It all starts with a lullaby

=I like the way t ends "and it all starts whith a lullaby" This seems to say that this "escapist's" journy startes with a lullaby . So really I think this song is about being able to escape this world by dreaming and the desire to stay there forever.
That is my take on the song, I am totally up for feedback on this one.

Nightwish – Eva Lyrics 14 years ago
When I heard this song, I was not sure what to think about it, I really did not understand, but after not listening to it for a while I found the following message;

6:30 winter morn
Snow keeps falling, silent dawn(To me this sets the scene for a story)
A rose by any other name (To me this means that Eva just seems to be seen as nothing more than just another face in the crowd.)
Eva leaves her Swanbrook home (This states of Evas departure from a place where she was living whether it be a good or bad place I do not know nor do I know the reason for her leaving. Im Open for opinions.)
A kindest heart which always made
Me ashamed of my own (This states of one of Eva's characteristics, she is loving, innocent and pure.)
She walks alone but not without her name (This makes me think that the Eva is not a person but more of a thing that is represented by a person. She stands alone but she is not without her title.)

Eva flies away
Dreams the world far away (this must be Eva's only way to escape the cuelties of reality.)
In this cruel children's game (Life)
There's no friend to call her name (There are few to support what she is or what she stands for.)
Eva sails away
Dreams the world far away
The Good in her will be my sunflower field (Not sure)

Mocked by man to depths of shame (This is another reason why I think that Eva is a thing represented bya person instead of a literal person. SOmething that has potential but is scorne and does not really have a chance in the "real world" We can see this everywere today, innocence ha been redefined as something that does not even resemble the true meaning, it is realy a side note forgotten by socioty and their lust for imidiate self gratification no matter the cost to others or to themselves. To do ths they must shun what they know is innocence and purity. And really innocence is openly mocked in these days.)
Little girl with life ahead
For a memory of one kind word
She would stay among the beasts
Time for one more daring dream
Before her escape, edenbeam
We kill with her own loving heart (This would seem like someone or something helpless just want to be remembered even if it is in a small way and would do anything to do that, but unfortunately, Humanity has a horrible talent of defileing the pure and using it to "kill" so to speak, using gifts in the wrong way or things in such a way that they were not intended. Humanity always exploits the darkside in all and to me that is just exsactly what it is saying to me in this part of the song.)

To me this song is about how Humanity takes something beautiful by nature, abuses ut and use it to destroy.
Beautifulsong
Here's to the BEST BAND EVER!!!

Nightwish – Dark Chest Of Wonders Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with many of the different ideas and interpritations that are listed. Thoughts of peter pan did cross my mind at one point but it mostly reminded me of the liberty of dreaming. At the midnight hour most people are sleeping and te song states that "the clock sruck twelve the window opened wide" it could be a representation of when one enters into the state of dreaming. Other lines say things like "Its time to cut the rope and fly to a dream" and "all the burdens gone." that make me think that it is more centered around the numbness of dreaming and leaving the real world behind. That is what the song means to me so if I am wrong, so be it, I am up for correction.
