( / too lazy to read all the comments ) ... " um. well ~ i think this song is talking about a relationship he had in the past, but how it had ended when he realised that they were both young, stupid, and waaaayy in over their heads. she still felt like she was totally bamf, while in reality, she was just a kid with a huge ego, as all youngsters (... aaand now i feel old. ._. ") are. so he left her, possibly to look for a more mature relationdhip. .....i think. ^^ |

please. this song is about as straight forward as it gets, so i don't understand why people have to find a deeper meanings -- it's not like this is the first song ever written about drugs (hotel california, anyone? 8D). but anyway. i can so relate to this song. :c |

| The Notwist – Boneless Lyrics | 15 years ago |

To be honest, I'm just getting into this band -- I'm not really familiar with the bands's writing style, so I was a bit reluctant about writing this... Still, what harm can it possibly do? c: Simply put, I think this is about someone who feels like an outcast in his town, because everyone else needs to pretend in order to feel happy and tells him he should do the same. But he doesn't really feel the need to do so, since he's "boneless" -- he can't feel as they do. The only part that sort of confused my was the "This town is all in hell. You know you would always run from here" part. After some thinking, I thought maybe he meant that this person was tired of people telling him he had to pretend to feel the happiness they longed to feel. So he would always run away. To sum up, I believe this about how people try to reach a state of happiness without realising how overrated happy is. But's just my take on it. c: |

| Modest Mouse – Heart Cooks Brain Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Well, in opinion, this song is about the constant question of wether to trust the heart and act on instinct, or to be rational and go with the brain, and not knowing where either choice will take you ("On my way to god don't know"). I think the brain being the burger and the heart being the coal is when you act on instinct when you should have acted rationally, and you end up getting hurt. On the other hand, when the brain is the cliff and the heart is the bitter buffalo, you're choosing to listen to the brain, but that's not what the heart (who is ultimatly in control of emotions anyway) wants. It's a dilemma! Anyway, that's just my view of it. I'm sure this is one of those songs that can have various meanings. c: But on another note, I love the line "The match of the century: Absence vs Thin Air" /3 |

Ah! What I love about Pinback songs is that they always have like, two sides -- the seemingly obvious interpretation (eg. Star Wars in this one <3), but they can also have some deeper meaning, "hidden", if you will. C: But y'know, that's just me. c| STAR WARS FTW <33 |

| Sufjan Stevens – For the Widows in Paradise, for the Fatherless in Ypsilanti Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Well, I dunno, I suppose I can see where some of you are coming from when you say this song is about religion... However, when I heard this song, I took it in a more literal sense; I thought this was about how a deceased father felt and what he would say to his wife, and to his children - to comfort them, to let them know that dispite the fact that he was gone, he'd still do all he could to protect them. I do feel this is a more...well, humane meaning. But then again, I wouldn't know, I'm not Christian. ... or anything else for that matter. ^^;; Aaaanyway. THIS SONG MAKES ME CRY SO HARD. ; AAAAA ; |

| Regina Spektor – Sailor Song Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Um ... well, I was actually getting " It should've been another state " instead of " It should've been with the state " As for Mary Anne, I sort of thought she could be both - a person, as well as the name of the sail. Maybe they named it after her ? ( / shurg ) i don't know. ^^ ;; If this were the case, the phrase " we miss the girls back home, oh home sweet home, cause Mary Anne's a bitch, " could be like saying ' I wish I was back with Mary Anne ( the girl ) ; life on the Mary Anne ( the boat ) is too hard ! D: " Another thing I thought about this song was that the sailor felt unhappy. Whenever he was on dry land, he would yearn for the sea. Likewise, when he was at sea, he would long for the girls on dry land. ... Well, yeah, I sort of got it that way. ;; |

| The Notwist – Solitaire Lyrics | 15 years ago |

This what I think the lyrics of this song mean: " We're more than overwhelmed by hundreds of hugs and a million good words " - I think this speaks of a person who isn't used to giving or recieving affection from other people, and it might even make them uncomfortable. " We are satisfied From Monday 'til Friday And on Sunday we cry " - Something similar happens to me. I feel happy, or "satisfied," from Monday to Friday, mostly because I'm busy during those days and I don't feel so alone or isolated in my house. (I don't go out much on weekends... ^^ ;; ) " But we like it From that point of view So we stay here and bare Until dawn everyday And we stay here and bare everyday " - Although this person's life might be seen as sad or depressing by some people, this person doesn't seem to mind - being alone isn't so bad, so they don't really do anything to try and change their life. Maybe this worries their friends/families, so they give them a lot of attention (the hugs and good words mentioned above). The "until dawn" part made me think that when they're alone, they can finally be themselves without having to pretend that they're emotional ties are very strong (in my case, at least). " We never lied From ten in the morning We are honest 'til nine " - This person knows there are both good and bad things about who they are/the way thay live. They're very honest about who they are... unless it comes to the not-so-good things about them. They try to hide the fact that they are actually very sad on the inside. " We are overcute We never will manage To be rude only twice " - This person is quiet, polite, some might say. They don't usually come on=ut and speak up about their opinion, except when they feel strongly about something. When they're really angry, they might drop their usual character and yell, or cry, or even through things. o.O _______________________ Well, this is what it means to me. I feel really identified to this song because I went through a time in my life where I was a bit "emo," so to speak, and everyone was worried about me but I just pushed them away and locked myself up in my little bubble. So yeah, if the interpretation doesn't make sense to any of you, it's probably because I based most of it on a personal experience... ^^ ;; |
