sorry binging on the immenseness off this album tonight. the lost ocean represents the directionless lives we lead, which he doesnt feel confortable with, to such a great extent that he let the hate/fear (imo very closely linked emotions) take control - "hiding from the light" but it only offers short term satisfaction and at some point its necessary to man up and face the light otherwise you will only grow more and more distanced from it "they cant burn bright forever" and although his life is back on track and he feels he is heading in the right direction, its impossible to forget about whatever was bringing his life down, and that is his motivation to keep "swimming farther than he ever planned to go" he speaks of hate as a savior quite frequently, but i don't think he is using save in the way most do. generally "save" means being brought into a much safer environment. i think he almost means it in an escaping sense. There will always be the temptation to go back to his old ways, escaping/being saved from the intensity of the 'ocean' |

in regards to the last stanza, totally sceptical but could it perhaps be referring to the boy inside himself, and the girl inside his "partner" by that i mean, on a childish and physical level they are perfect for each other 'when she dances oh she knows its right' she knows its right, to her it feels perfect but it is actually what he isnt saying (that he feels its right) which is more important and deep down, he knows that it will never have the desired outcome, as they will never connect on a level that he values, ultimately sending them (the boy, girl, and the people they are part of) into an unfullfilling and damned relationship |

wow, you make me glad i stopped listening to DGD before you joined. even if what you were saying was true, your way of explaining it disgusts me although i can see how you might not like him, you clearly lack all the qualities that i respect him for, even if you can play guitar well ^^ |

I only recently downloaded Relativity, was a big oldschool DGD fan but didn't even know Jonny was in Emarosa until i heard them (at which point it is obvious, immense voice) I really rate him for his lyrics, especially this album. It seems to me that this song, along with 'The Past Should Stay Dead', are intentionally relatable to both drug and love abuse, he is talking about the state of mind he is in now and using powerful metaphors to summarise the differences from his previous self. The respectable part is that he does it well enough for it to accurately relate to both (drugs/love). Haven't got round to analysing the rest yet, just savouring my connection to those two songs at the moment. As for his supposed criticism of DGD, i don't dispute some of his feelings are conveyed in the new album, but i do not think they are the inspiration, more like a guiding factor. |
