Otep – Confrontation Lyrics 15 years ago
i feel this is her most political song she has ever written. i love the fact when she plays it live she begins it with the true act of a patriot is to never remain silent. which makes me feel empowered an american. the question are we safe or in danger let you feel the way when you are in war and it on and off again war you don't know when its safe or not. and the fact that its anti capitalist is fulfilling because its true when you are really high up on the capitalist scale you seem like you are a cruel ruler and the you will have more enemies then when she says "its the rich mans wat but its the poor that fight" has a lot of social commentary not only as a nation at war but as a working person in society working for the really well off owner who treats you like crap. its just over all an empowering and liberating experience that releases the feeing of insignificance that people feel as workers compared to those who do not have to struggle but earn more well done miss shamaya it has the quality that warhead is missing.

Otep – Fillthee Lyrics 15 years ago
its a powerful song because of how she is presenting the lines "i cant get his scent off of me" its really powerful as a person who as gone through sexual abuse i realize what its like because you feel so filthy that no matter how much you clean yourself you can never wash away the scars of that your abuse has inflicted on you. i love when she sings "she wants to see galaxies all the planets and the stars" because when you are young you want to see everything but then something traumatic happens and you feel that it will never happen and the lyric "burn the world and let her soul be free" shows how her ideals change and her views after enduring abuse. its a good song it make you feel liberated but its not as deep as many other of her songs but its by far on of her catchiest.

Otep – Home Grown Lyrics 15 years ago
its a obvious statement that this song is about abuse but i feel it give you the sense of bing in her house as a child. its really powerful to see things through the eyes of a child and knowing that you have to lie about the pain you are feeing to the world outside of your house. i LOVE when she says "loving you is nothing new its self mutilation but i crave the pain i am so ashamed but i love stimulation" the first part of that lyric is so powerful because as a child and if your parent is abusive the world tells you you must love your abuser but you know that because you love them its like mutilating yourself. then the second part of its a drug/sex reference that you are willing to hurt yourself or make yourself as a woman hurt from sex to feel a rush.then the parts where she is making up all the lies of why she has all the marks of abuse is really strong because most abuse victims will do that. then feeling that its your fault that you are being abused when you obviously did nothing wrong is a strong thing. then she threatens her abuser which is just such a liberating experience because it gives you the satisfaction of revenge. and i wish the opening was in this song and not invisible because its touch to hear it its so sweet how otep tells her mother that despite everything that has happened she still loves her and promises her that her father will never touch her or her family again

Otep – Invisible Lyrics 15 years ago
I view this song as being about how society wants all to be the same and thus giving us the feeling of being invisible as people. and with a s sense of depression feeling alone and being the complete opposite of what society tells you to be i love the fact thats she says "beneath a cold watching you walk away" because its a sense of being alone watching someone you love walking away from you makes the sun feel cold. then being so depressed you never leave a room because its so much physical to break the walls in you mind. and then feeling like you are sick mentally that you begin to hurt yourself and that hurt the ones you love and you are so used to the pain you can act like you aren't feeling anything and your best friends and family cant even tell that you are hurting i do not like the fact that the lyrics "you never saw it coming you never knew it hit you" are missing because its powerful because she whispers it and its a powerful statement that you cannot help save someone from committing suicide.and i love that she screams "CAN YOU SEE ME NOW?" its really emotion felt that you are screaming to be seen and still no one does. then when she says "this pain can save your life... now do you see?" is about people finding out about the pain someone endure to the point of when they commit suicide then asks now do you see this is what happens to people when they are invisible. her lyrics are really well done as all ways one of my personal favorites because it make you think.
