I often speculate when listening to this about the meaning of the line: "Well it's okay 'cause the kids are making models of God out of paper mache" I wonder if it's something to do around false idols. |

| @[deranged_one_13:5149] After reading your comment am in complete agreement. Also Mary could refer to Mary J Blige (Queen of hip-hop soul) | |

| If you read 'things the grandchildren should know' He says it is about how he found all the writings from his sister after she committed suicide as you said. | |

Also should have said song is clearly about getting over depression. First verse characterises this. I'm in a good mood today, I'm glad it's not yesterday (the past has gone) Vereses are pretty self explanatory, so is the chorus really. When the world stops making sense Just taking what you can get - Fed up of what he's given When the people on the street Start looking like silhouettes - Depressed/Looking down at his feet, silhouettes - shadows When the words just sound like noise - Constant drone of every day life I need a new alphabet - Reinvent himself When the world stops making sense - Repeated meaning of previous two. I make a new alphabet |

I quite like the idea that it is from both sides. The guy is madly in love with her, and she loves him, but she works too much at her job and doesn't give him enough time to feel truly loved. He therefore finds other girls to pass the time that he thinks she doesn't know about. They've both done wrong. The chorus is obviously told from the girls point of view as she has moved on. The first verse is him saying he'd love to carry on and start again as is the third. The rest is from her side. Just a thought |

| I also think it is 'you're always attack' instead of 'you're always a tack' | |

Personally I disagree slightly, I think they've been fighting a lot, and she loves him so much she always forgives him, and lets him back. Then one day she stands up to him, and he says he needs some space - 'funny how quick the milk turns sour' suggesting that he is able to do whatever he wants but as soon as she does it, he feels like she's destroyed him. Then he wants some space, thinking she'll always be there, then when he goes back to her, she has decided she's better off without him and his love is weak and doesn't mean enough for the pain he causes. |
