Here's what I think. I think that he's singing the song to his current girlfriend. He's so completely in love with her. "Why do you do this to me?" I think this part is him pretty much saying that she still completely takes his breath away so easily. And it still overwhelms him. But I think he's saying that over time, they aren't the same as they were when they first began. Maybe they're growing further and further apart. He keeps breaking his promises. "A phrasing that's a single tear, is harder that I've ever feared" This could mean the one thing he has to say is the hardest thing for him to say. Maybe they should break up? I'm not sure. I would think so because of "And you were left feeling so alone." "I should've known this wasn't real And fought it off and fought to feel" Maybe this means, from the beginning he should have known that they wouldn't last. Even if he is madly in love with her. Maybe they were doomed from the start? And he wishes that he tried harder to make it work? "What matters most? Everything That you feel while listening to every word that I sing." I think this is pretty clear to me. He's saying that it matters to him that she actually hears the words he's singing/saying. Because if he's saying something and she's hearing something totally different...Maybe they weren't meant for each other. "I promise I will bring you home." It's almost as if he's starting over. He broke previous promises while they were together. This last one is his farewell? Maybe to let it go down in flames rather than in anger and hatred. He still loves her but knows it's not meant to be. He's promising to let her go to where she belongs. With someone else? I don't know. This is just my opinion. Thoughts? |
