Burial – Rival Dealer Lyrics 5 years ago
So I'm here to interpret Burial's "Rival Dealer". Properly intimidated.

These thoughts are darkness itself. It says that "I'm gonna love you more than anyone." The "I'm" makes one feel as though they are being addressed personally in "front" of them. With a haunting refrain at the end of it.
Burial's Rival Dealer.
It's amazing what songs have come to me to me. God is involved in all of them--- I wonder what the creators of these songs would say about that. I think they would get it though. I'm getting through life with these tunes but, who knows, I mean--- I think I know--- what the real meaning was. On a higher level perhaps all the songs are about the relationship with God/Dharma
"Sometimes you are trying to find yourself--- and you run away always. Thats what happened to me."

Maybe God is saying that--- Maybe William Bevan is. I don't "know." I feel a resonance with the latter though. I think the song is designed in a way that is like religion. It takes on what it needs to in anyone's particular life experience.

"I have chosen you disciple."

Obviously this means that God has chosen you to bear the deep secrets. The esoteric secrets of struggle that might help you come to a deeper realization. The song has meant many things to me over the years-- "Sometimes you are trying to find yourself, and you runaway always."

I personally see this line as a line from God himself. He created the universe, yet he is running away from himself always. Because the thoughts of having created this disgustingly excusite reality are enough to make any One sick to themselves. So he runs away from himself despite finding himself. And all of us know the feelings of trying to "find ourselves" but taken to completion, wouldn't the father of this reality have to reckon with his own .... seemingly perpetual inequalities that reinforce the nature of infinity and give freshness to "chance". He would eventually have to face that horrible realization. And like a fresh roadkill would even smell the blood so near to the act. Always so near to the act. Of creating this horribly perpetually fresh dish of reality that through its intangibles reinforces the savoring of itself?

Anyway. That is how I see it, to myself. The sounds remind me of a ...cathedral. just not during the day, at night. "This is who I am."

"Something came down to us."

Enter Shikari – Sorry You're Not a Winner Lyrics 9 years ago
Alright, I read the interpretations and I'm sad--- Gambling? LOL
It's a song about being one of the kids who isn't cool.
Being a cool kid is a scratch card glory. Its cheap, unpredictable, and it only lasts for a time in school.....(so to speak)
Waist low pleasure is making a point about how this form of pleasure is fake and is ultimately lust, and how the cool kids are really just drunk on "Waist low pleasure"

Black eyes, nose bleeds, dont look back now--- thats a declaration of what not being with the "in crowd" does to you in teenager years. And you develop a barrier because you were slamming yourself up against that wall of trying to be accepted and in the cool kid crowd, which causes your nose to bleed and gives you black eyes.... So now we dont look back at the wall.

My white abode, do you remember? He is speaking of the purity of love he once dreamt of. "The little white house" with the children and the wife and the idyllic love. He is asking himself if he remembers that sentiment...

"Its such a thrill just to find out", is tricky---- i THINK it means that we trick ourselves into believing in love because the process of finding out is such a thrill. That puppy love, that high school love, is Thrilling! The love that made you feel like you were walking 2 ft off the ground. We know it's going to fall apart but the journey is thrilling?

The next line he is saying that mockingly "sorry your not a winner" (a cool kid) with the air so cold and, a mind so bitter--- the air is so cold because nobody is warm, and the mind is bitter because its alone. At this point one does not want to be a winner.

But, what have you got to lose by not being one of the cool kids?
What have you got,
to lose but false intentions,
and a life so,
pretentious?

Do I have to explain that last part? ^_- (its my interpretation but im pretty confident)

Underworld – Always Loved A Film Lyrics 11 years ago
Like most of you, I'm driven to know the meaning of this song. It just has that timeless feeling, you know, like love at first sight.

It starts out and continues to emphasize a basic rhythm of life, one can imagine all sorts of normal activities transpiring to the rhythm of the song. That HEAVY 4/4 beat the "heartbeat" when your dancing. So your picturing people walking on the beach and their steps are in tune to the beat of this song---- then your mind travels to a ferris wheel stopping the rays of the sun from hitting your eyes, in time to this song----- this has ever happened to you ??? If you listen to music on headphones especially, you tend to perform your actions in time with the song right? "Can you feel it"? "Heaven." (philosophical musings about life lived in rhythm being a kind of heaven?)

"As we fall into the sun----" the sun is the source of light and movement, so if we fell into the sun it would imply that we are falling headfirst into rhythm of a visual and rhythmic kind.....(?)

she walk on silver, she walk on gold----
paints i love you on the alley walls---
from the eyes that hid ebehidn black glasses
sunlight hits everyone she passes...

Man I dont know. This part confuses me. ! The title is implying that when one listens to a song they see a film in their mind, and he's "always loved a film?" so why not? (guessing remember)

k. I'm done--- probably sounds insane but that's what I'm guessing hahah.

Iron Maiden – Infinite Dreams Lyrics 11 years ago
In my top 5 Maiden Tracks

Going over the lyrics I see a recurring plea to know the truth about it all, and the singers opinion that there has go to be more to it then this, do I get another chance? Or do I die? But this idea of infinite dreams concerns him and he has a feeling that when he dies it is not the end, that in fact, the game begins again...and again... and alludes to cyclical time, which would be like universal reincarnation ala 'eternal recurrence' It also characterizes the man who seeks the answers to these questions and his built in desire to know the mystery of it all, and he fears the truth that he is drawn to like a moth to a flame, the truth that it could be all for nothing, or is it? He cant deny that he has dreams of infinity.

Hoobastank – Crawling In The Dark Lyrics 13 years ago
Staritng off by saying, I never knew about Hoobastank. I never heard any of their songs, I thought they were some random washed out alternative group. and listening to most of their other tunes, I agree with this. But this one song, haunts me. I cant seem to forget about it. Crawling in the Dark. The lyrics seem to resonate with some inner disturbance i have---

i will dedicate, and sacrifice my everything, for just a seconds worth of how my story is ending. I would give my life, to know if the way im living is worth it, will my story have a meaningful ending? Is the way I've approached life meaningful? or has it been a waste of time? "I wish I could know, the directions that I take, and all the hcoices that I make, wont end up all for nothing--- " Obviously at a crossroads in life, doubting the way we've led life to this point--- has this wayward journey been all for nothing? "Show me what its for, make me understand it." show me that the sacrifices I've made, were meant for something--- that I wasnt this way for nothing--- "I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answers" all my life I've been searching for affirmation, and all I need is a confirmation from you that this is not all for nothing. "show me what its for, make me understand it," I need a message from you that this way of life is meant for something, make me understand why I am the way I am. "Is there something more? Then what I've been handed?" have i missed something about life I was supposed to get? Did life deal me a hand that made it impossible to get?,,,

"help me carry on, assure me its okay too, use my heaert and not my eyes to navigate the darkness, will the ending ever be coming suddenly? will i ever get to see, the ending to my story?"

Asking a higher power to help us carry on, tell us its okay to see the world with our heart and not judge it by our eyes, will I die suddenly? or will I get to see the resolution to this story?

Between the Buried and Me – Swim to the Moon Lyrics 13 years ago
So, this might be off--- but this song is incredibly important to me and it has some context with my life. I thought I would share the way I interpret it.

Beginning by the declaration that it has been far too long that he has been away from everything in life. The people he associates with take things from him, because he gives them dominion over himself. The prison is his whole life, which is rusting from age, and despite his attempts and the knowledge that rust makes it weaker, he cannot escape from it. He longs to know when he will have the 'will' to take his own life. When will he be hopeless enough to swim to the moon? He has heard this expression many times, but never realized how relaxing the sentiment is.

He is alone in the world's waters, (on the oceans). After trying to swim to the moon, he realizes that he is finally there. The light of life is drifting past the edge of his world, and he cant blame his ancestors for believing the world is flat? He wishes us to know that he is the loneliest of all people in the world, despite if there may be others that have swam out to the moon. He was born to make the world aware of purpose by his own death. (Jesus?) He longs of a peace he has never felt, and remembers that he did not want to live this life. Death will awaken him. He then says, I think, that all of us like him, should look closely into the example he is showing, that we may learn something?

No more anxiety, no more regrets for failures in whatever form they may be. No more vain hopes that always end up messed? Give in to the water's reflection of the moon, when you die, you will become one with the water, life wont matter anymore because of how grand you are. So just give in and 'swim to the moon.'

The next part of the song is pretty cryptic to me, I am venturing to say that hes describing what death is like. The as seen on tv part FOR ME, seems to say that death is not the stableizing thing he thought it would be, or was advertised to be. He doesnt have to wake up anymore, and no one expects anything of him. He wanted this to happen, but as usual things turn out to be a struggle even in death, for him. He realizes that he has indeed made the final choice to flee life and it is not reversible. There he is, clothed in whatever he decided to die in? Look into the big picture, he is a part of life and the universe again, this is what he lived to be--- he lived to show people that death is preferable to life in some cases?

This song has haunted me for years. It has taken on almost religious significance over time. My interpretation is limited by my own experiences which no doubt have influenced the meaning I have of it. But to put it simply, this man is overwhelmed by panic disorder and he is tired of the constant challenge to be normal and happy in life. He gives up, and starts to rationalize death and its merits---

Coldplay – Trouble Lyrics 13 years ago
Oh no I see--- (impending understanding of the situation)
A spider web it's tangled up with me ( caught in his emotions for something)
And I lost my head (erred and got seriously emotional with love, afraid of being trapped)
The thought of all the stupid things I said (he regrets wasting your time telling you how much he loved you)

Oh no what's this (no longer just sees it but feels the web)
A spider web and I'm caught in the middle (he is in the middle because of struggling so much)
So I turned to run (he thought he had better get away before he gets hurt)
The thought of all the stupid things I've done (hes no longer just said things, he has done things like kissing or loving someone who didnt really want him)

And oh I never meant to cause you trouble (hes sorry for wasting your time on him)
And oh and I never meant to do you wrong (he really meant to the best for you)
And oh well if I ever caused you trouble (spitefully admitting that he loves you so much that if he caused you any disturbance then he is heartfully sorry for it, basically turning himself into steps that she walks on)
Oh no I never meant to do you harm ( maybe he believes that hes been so much trouble to her)

So I twist and turn (he knows he is caught, and he twists and turns so he can lodge himself in her web)
Here am I in my little bubble (she spun him into a bubbly cacoon on her web)

they spun a web for me (maybe he believes that they did this to him on purpose, because he keeps falling in love with spidery women?)

anyway, thats my interpretation. Coldplay has very intricate lyrics, and I thought I would share what I really believe he was trying to sing about.

Never before have I been so reminded of Nietzsche's philosophy as when I read your interpretation. Anyone that wishes to pursue these ideals further would do well to pick up, 'beyond good and evil'

and for the record, I totally agree with your interpretation. ONe thing bothers me though, the constant mumbling throughout the video. He acts as if someone slighted him recently and he is seeking to be fatalistic... other then that my mind is at peace with this video now

typically egocentric response maybe you should have started with "I think...(the song isnt about the film"

either way strong minds have given this consideration and you presume to just roll over that with your sentence that has nothing to back it up. Ludicrous. =) I almost wonder if you posted this as a troll, musicians making music about things that have inspired them? Yeah, they've been known to do that...

I Blame Coco – Self Machine Lyrics 14 years ago
I think this is a classic case of a song being written for themselves. So damned cryptic that any roundabout meaning could suffice. however seriously, I would say that if your mirror told you that you were a self machine you would be realizing that you were once very vain...? A Lonely robot in a lonely wasteland, see constellations and stars and the powers that be, engaged in a dance this purported routine? are we two worlds apart or in between? Maybe its a ballad about humans becoming engaged with technology, cyborgs....blade runners...that sort of thing. <3

also it reminds those of us who know how and why, we must stand against the constant threat of evil in the world, and i do not refer to orcs and trolls I refer to Men with their overrated sense of self... when the voices of men ring out again all creation shall unfold, dragon force lyrics have Nietzsches philosophy imbued in their spirit, I recommend you read him if you are looking for guidance to that fire you feel inside when you hear these incredible songs. The Journey is the destination. =)

this song has me grasping for a sword at my side that is nonexistent, and the inspiration it gives me is to charge against anything that would threaten the ideals of honor and the preservation of a world that will never give away all of its secrets. What else can be said, listen to the song. The meaning of the song is how it makes you feel. Desiderata.

The Streets – The Escapist Lyrics 15 years ago
a declaration of spiritually induced freedom, and a word of advice that the walls were never really there. There is no way to make sense without asking Mike precisely what some of this means. However, I think its really a song about letting things be peaceful, or running away, and he also lets us in on the fact that he is an escapist with life, and maybe this is what all great songwriters are...the act of listening to a song deeply is an escape.

Some of the song is just poetic fluff, but it sounds exceedingly beautiful. The metaphors are dripping with creativity, and they are improvised so try not to stare for an interpretation, What I can say is that when he says "no...I'm not trapped in a box...im glancing at rocks...im dancing off docks."
its a slight reference to things going away when he says dancing off docks...like you cant dance off a dock, you need to sail from one in a boat, so hes making fun of the escapism he has personified, having a bit of fun with it, and letting you all know how he feels about super serious things. He's an escapist... Mike has some floppy tracks yes but this one makes up for ALL of them. I'd buy an album for this single tune

Between the Buried and Me – Arsonist Lyrics 15 years ago
the angel sleeps in her own blood because the guilt for all the sorrow of the world has killed her and she is rendered incapable of sleep because of constant watch. proclaims his deep hatred for the church, believes the death of Christianity will bring a better day.. he claims that humanity's unending sin will cause the death of "Their God" which it will, because as Nietzsche wrote "God is Dead." and he read once too, incredulous, "all is permitted..."?

I think that the rest of the song is a tirade about how some Christians are corrupt and have broken up families and ruined lives.? He must be referring to some historical action by the faithful... I know that weak people used the word of their God to have people burned for blasphemy and such things, but this isn't really applicable anymore so I'm inclined he is writing about something else...

perhaps, he is getting to the root of things and shouting that same war cry that Nietzsche was, Christianity is at base wrong, and contrary to anything progressive for humanity... Why? because you drown in your own blood, ever watchful for the tired, sick, hungry, poor... never living the life that was given to you, constantly working to put a temporary fix on something that is dying painfully and taking everything it can with it... Now they will receive us, is a sneering insult to the claim by Christians that the lord will only receive them into heaven. But true to our nature as lords of creation, we proud and warlike thinkers, that they call philosophers, we will force ourselves upon them and remind them to respect the reality we are all adherent to...

Between the Buried and Me – More of Myself to Kill Lyrics 15 years ago
ok since btbam is such an important part of my lfie I felt compelled to add my own interpretation to this site since its so unique,...its sad that something hasnt been made like this already, with tons of feedback...

the intro, im guessing is a throwback to the weakminded tears of society unknowing of the true state of things.. he has realized true happiness realizing that he is a part of nature and the true order of things, unlike those he weeps for....

no gods have caressed me.....only nature is willing to comfort me....this is a loaded statement based on his...im guessing apparent philosophical adherence to nature...

salvation is dead, is a reference to God is Dead a quote by nietzsche, maybe not direct....if he feels that he dies then all of the world dies with him because his beliefs encapsulate the state of the world....He is alive because he doesnt care about what the world feels....his memory is the only thing tiering him to this paltry existence....

and it ends, with a rant about hedonism, and apparent morals that are fake (charities and donations)....

and ending with a statement that humanity is done with no heroes to kill for and no life to die for

Enter Shikari – OK, Time For Plan B (Re-Recorded) Lyrics 15 years ago
let this battle commence, one last time!
Let this battle commence, one last time!
Let this battle commence, one last time!
[And I hope for your sake, that you're on our side]
Let this battle commence, one last time!
[And I hope for your sake, that you're on our side]

to begin with i think that this song is about how humanities plan has failed, and now it is time for a "plan b".

Look what you've done to yourself
Yeah you've lost the will to do what's right again
Look what you've done to yourself
We'll fight like sharks, we'll fight like dogs
[We were shy...]

this is obviously saying that our morality is changing into something bad. We WERE shy, but now that we have understanding we know that nothing can stop you if you believe in it, and youve been thru alot of shit like when V for Vendetta stood up in the fire?

We try to communicate
We've got no patience
Let's reclaim this throne
Why should we negotiate
Let's finish this now!

those that understand, are seen as a bit crazy or something on the first part....they have NO patience. Lets take over this world, why should we wait until it decays into what its obviously decaying into....lets do it right now....(wow)

ok so the rest of the song, is mostly self explanatory based on what i have said, the last part where he says everyone freezes e.t.c... that i think just means that everyone is waiting (those in the know) and they know that when this revolution happens it will .....make the earth move, and the ground shake metaphorically.
