| Guided by Voices – Window Of My World Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I don't think they have a concrete meaning. I can see some elements about siolation and love, which leads me to think that it's about a break uo, and the depression afterwards, the guy is locked up and doesn't want to know anything, his world collapsed. | |
| Nick Drake – The Thoughts of Mary Jane Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I don't think it's about marijuana or about a girl at all. I think it is a very introspective song. I believe he is singing about himself. He just used a different name to reflect what most people think about him, Nick was a complete mystery even for his own family and this song is about that, in my opinion at least. He didn't wanted to be too obvious so he just used a character, Mary Jane, to express what he felt. Like Kafka or any other writer, his characters are really him. |

| Nick Drake – Know Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I never thought of this song as being about unrequited love, but now i agree with what you say. I always thought it was kind of a bipolar disorder. Telling someone you love her, next day telling her you hate her. Unrequited love sounds more logical to me. |
| Nick Drake – Time of No Reply Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Time of no reply to me is about being invisible. Not being heard, not being seen... it is pretty sad. Loneliness is quite palpable throughout the song. Probably Nick´s best. |
| Nick Drake – Time of No Reply Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is very poetic yet very straightforward. He is alone, he feels like he can´t reach anyone or anything. Alienation and isolation expressed in a wonderful way. By far, this is my favorite Nick Drake song. |
| Radiohead – The Daily Mail Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Thank You. The correction has been made. | |
| Radiohead – Bloom Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I think this song is really about isolation as many other Radiohead songs. I do not know when was the song exactly recorded, lyrically it remainds me of the earlier Radiohead , because of the whole imaginery (sigh, ocean giant turtle´s eyes jellyfishes, pain, orbit...). It makes him feel like he is beeen watched, observed by people who are completely alien to him (hence comparing them to turtles and jellyfishes). An outsider, hence the out of orbit reference too. | |
| Radiohead – Cuttooth Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I don´t think this song is political at all. Thom was having a really hard time back after OK Computer and he just wanted to vanished. That is what this song really is about!. | |
| Radiohead – Bodysnatchers Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Forgot to mention that it is my favorite In Rainbows song. It is a reminescent of the old Radiohead pre Kid A era. | |
| Radiohead – Bodysnatchers Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| About this song, Thom said that it was about "your physical consciousness trapped without being able to connect fully with anything else." There you go. Oh, and it was influenced by horror stories and the Stepford Wives novel. | |
| Radiohead – Planet Telex Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think this song refers as how Thom used to look at the world. No matter how hard he tried, he could not cope with it, he didn´t fit. Everyhting is broken and he can´t forget. Nothing and no one seems worthy. |
| Radiohead – Give Up the Ghost Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I forgot to mention that when i mentiones the tree, i meant the branches (arms) of the tree. Somehow, it gives a sense of protection. | |
| Radiohead – Give Up the Ghost Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song to me is about looking for some comfort (into your arms), i do not know if the lyrics refer to someone or something. It could be God, it could be the tree that the album is named after. It looks like a child plea to his/her mother. And at the same time, it also looks like that moment in life where you leave your house, your family (i think i have had my fill... i think i should give up the ghost)and start living. That is what the song represents to me. |

| Nick Drake – Cello Song Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Here is my take on the song: "Strange face, with your eyes So pale and sincere Underneath you know well You have nothing to fear For the dreams that came to you when so young Told of a life Where spring is sprung" This is how he sees most of the people. Carefree and enjoying life and full of hope. "You would seem so frail In the cold of the night When the armies of emotion Go out to fight But while the earth sinks to its grave You sail to the sky On the crest of a wave" This is and advice. Save yourself, because things are rather bad. "So forget this cruel world Where I belong I'll just sit and wait And sing my song And if one day you should see me in the crowd Lend a hand and lift me To your place in the cloud". He knows he can´t simply "let go". Again, an advice for anyone who wants to listen to it, get away from everything or it wil consume you. And if you can, please, help. |

| Nick Drake – One Of These Things First Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I agree with 99.9% of this wonderfull interpretation. The only thing i do not agreew with, is the fact that you mention that the last verse comes after a break up. In my opinion, he is talking about a non existant relationship (maybe the girl didn´t wanted him?) and he is saying : if you had given me the chance, i could have beedn all of this for you. | |
| Radiohead – Nude Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I don't see why people over analyze this song or simply reduce it to be about sex, or porn or masturbation. Evidently, it means what you want it to mean. IMO, the song is about plain frustration. It could be sexual frustration, it could be other thing, but frustrating none the least. It is definetly not a possitive song, it is full of angst and sadness. When he sings "don't get big ideas" he sounds condemned, he can't have a big idea,he can't aspire to that. He is frustrated. It is a very dark song, even though it doesn't seem like it. |
| Radiohead – Where I End and You Begin. (The Sky Is Falling In.) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Bingo. Thom has never been known to be very sociable. I believe that there is (or was, at least) a profound sense of disconnection between Thom and society. I have never thought of Thom as someone empà thetic. He seems to live in his own world. |
| Radiohead – Reckoner Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I always thought of this song as a song fulled of angst. A song that pretty much talks about how he can't seem to connect with modern society, hence the plea to the Reckoner (whatever Reckoner might be- God, fate, etc.). The "because we separate like ripples on a blank shore" part makes me think of an alienating society. Those are my two pennies... but i guess i am wrong due to the other comments. |
| Radiohead – I Might Be Wrong Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think this song has little or nothing to do with a relationship, either with a girl or a God. I believe this song is highly acid and ironic. He sings: "I might be wrong, I might be wrong, I could have sworn I saw a light... Coming on" He is beign sarcastic. Saying hmmm maybe things aren't that bad... but i might be wrong. "I used to think there is no future left at all" Then again, sarcasm. For me, the song is kind of an attack on people who live care-free and don't care too much, hence the title I Might Be Wrong. |
| Radiohead – Staircase Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Can't really make anything from the lyrics. All i know is that the angst drivne songs by Radiohead are long gone now. It sounds to me like a love song. Doesn't seem to have more meaning than that. |
| Radiohead – Separator Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Au contraire. I feel like Thom is singing about leaving that long and weary dream behind. He wants to wake up form a nightmare, and he finally has woken up. That`s why it sound so positive, he is saying "Finally I'm free of all the weight I've been carrying". |
| Radiohead – Reckoner Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is probably the most intelligent comment i`ve read of this song. Most of the people tend to over-analyze it and says it`s about God, it`s about the end of the wrold... no no no. It`s more simpler and more relatable. Like someone here said, if a work doesn't mean anything to the artist it won't mean anything to the listener, so it's not valid either to say "it's just art, it doesn't matter what it means, it what it means to you". |
| Radiohead – The Bends Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is very tongue-in-cheek. It`s Radiohead trying to be The Smiths, Thom is very cynical about the general image the media created around him (he doesn`t have any friends, he wish it was the sixties, etc.) He`s really taken a joke in here. It is probably the only joke song Radiohead has. |
| The Smiths – There Is a Light That Never Goes Out Lyrics | 15 years ago |
My thoughts exactly. Not having a home is not fitting in. No place can he call a "home". In his case, Manchester, London, etc. |
| The Smiths – Unloveable Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I'm happy i`m not the only one who finds the humor in this song. I agree with what most people say here, picture the 15, 16 year old kid who has a huge crush but the girl finds him unattractive and "freaky". However, if you look real deep into the song, it`s Morrissey saying "Ok, i`m a prick, i get it now, i'm unsufferable, whatever, as you say".Think about Bigmouth Strikes Again, it`s in the same line. |
| Radiohead – Street Spirit (Fade Out) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree with what most people say here, this song is the reflect of our own world crushing down. Thom didn't say it was about the devil himself, he stated it´s about knowing that the devil will have the final laugh. I feel so related to this song, my life hasn't been so dark and desperate, but it's been quite ironic, quite harsh in many ways. Realizing that your biggest dreams, your biggest hopes, your need for a complete change will never be. The darkness that surrounds this song is overwhelming. No words could truly describe it. |
| Radiohead – I Want None of This Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The idea i get from this song is about having things you do not need, the frustration of not getting what you want. I believe that Thom has made several songs about this issue, so i might be wrong (pun intended, lol) |
| The Smiths – Never Had No One Ever Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Damn... it´s almos creepy to see how most of The Smiths and Morrissey´s solo songs are very relatable... God, it´s like he can open our brains and look inseide them... |
| Radiohead – Motion Picture Soundtrack (Kid A version) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I´m gonna go with Beans interpretation. For a while, and considering that this was the time when Radiohead became more "political" i assumed it was about Hollywood and how vile the show biz can be. However, i have changed my mind since and have a similar interpretation to Beans' |
| Radiohead – Motion Picture Soundtrack (Kid A version) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I always got that same feeling. Someone living a Hollywood-esque dream of a relationship that will never come true. |
| Joy Division – Transmission Lyrics | 15 years ago |
My interpretation of this song is that music can help you escape the living hell our planet has now become. It´s the same opinion i have on "The Sound Of Music" when he sings " i can see life getting harder!" I can relate to it, i isolate from everything and listen to music for hours. If more people would do that, the world would be a better place. |
| Radiohead – Let Down Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I also agree with you. It is a very relatable and deep song, something very rare on music. |
| The Smiths – The Headmaster Ritual Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Is it just me or does somebody else thinks that the lyrics isn't just about teachers but also about bulling? The "spineless swines2 and "belligerent ghouls" that "run Manchester schools" are nor only teachers, but also kids that live in impunity. It is just my thoughts, when i was in school teachers and kids alike were pretty mean. |
| Radiohead – No Surprises Lyrics | 15 years ago |
What i picture when i hear this song is a dude so comfortable with his life, his comfort zone if you will, hence the quiet life and the no alarms and no surprises thing. However, he finds himself in this contradictory aspect, how boring his life is and wants to change but he can´t. |
| Nirvana – Blandest Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| IMVHO, I think this song might be about co-dependence. A relationship in which he knows that it harms him yet he justifies it by saying it helps him to grow. | |
| Nirvana – Dive Lyrics | 15 years ago |
For me, this song is about introspection (dive in me)and therapy. For many of us, therapy is bullshit and just don´t help. Guess that´s what Kurt thought of it. |
| Nirvana – Blew Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I always thought this song was about social strain and isolation...stress and strain... i would like to blew(go away)... shame. Anyone else feels this way? | |
| Nirvana – Very Ape Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Does anyone else thinks this song is about Kurt´s struggle with fame? (Out of the ground Into the sky Out of the sky Into the dirt)his meteoric rise to stardom, his depression, how dissapointed he was (I'm too busy acting like I'm not naive I've seen it all, I was here first) And his low self-steem? (I am buried up to my neck in contradictionary flies) you know, like the people who isolate themselves trying to protect themselves yet hating themselves... Those are my thoughts. |
