| to me, its about someone who feels their relationship is 'on the rocks' and really wants to make it better again. they'd do anything to try and make things the way they were (i'd be a statue, if you wanted me to...). Basically, i think its a song about being in love with someone who isnt quite as in love with you, and not knowing what you can do about it. Maybe i'm talking crap, and its just cause im going through that at the minute. but that's what it means to me :) | |

how has this got so little comments?! hmm, as so many Mumford & Sons songs, i think its about a break up. he's done something to mess up (i have done wrong, so build your tower), and the girlfriend has broke up with him, and i think he's basically trying to say that he accepts what he did was wrong, and he'll try to change, even though she didnt believe it when he said it (You may not trust the promises of the change I'll show), and he's just trying to say he'll always be there if she ever wants him again. i could be completely wrong, thats just how i interpreted it. :) |

Personally, i can see all perspectives of the song mentioned above, sarcastic, honest, etc. However, i think its pretty genuine. Although the 'I really fucked it up this time didn;t i, my dear?' sound pretty sarcastic, i think the rest of the chorus is really heartfelt. It could be a mix of emotions, as in, he is quite sarcastic but also sorry for the pain he has caused? :) i guess its just what it means to the individual! :) |
