This song seems to be like about Narcissus from greek mythology, since It somehow sounds like the person is chasing after this love but he's always alone even when that person is there, meaning that person IS his own reflection, MOST LIKELY, but thats just what I think. |

Its about the Artist who is driven insane because after Annabel was murdered and he thought he killed her at first(before he met the thespian) and he was being being driven insane because he kept hearing her cry out to him and he kept seeing her reflection in mirrors, So he just went crazy and locked 7 people in a tavern and Slashed them all to death, so he blames Annabel for causing him this Insanity. |

The Artist Comes to grips with Annabel's Death and realises that he will not be able to be at peace until he finds the Thespian, who is the man who killed her, and Return the favor by Killing him. He Spends the day planning the attack and by night he tells himself to get back into the Psycho He was at the Tavern(in the song The Murderer). When he finally finds the Thespian, He stalks him into the woods, and they both charge at each other like wild beasts slashing and stabbing each other violently. Eventually the Artist falls to his knees infront of the thespian and he pushes every ounce of strength he has, but his legs wont move, and as the Thespian is about to Finish him off, He hears Annabel's voice saying "Everything is going to be okay my love, follow my voice, Everything will be fine, Its all over now(as she says its all over now, Her voice sounds pretty angry)" << this interlude is only available if you buy the full album. He met the thespian and he said he's the one who killed her, So he now is in such anguish that he couldnt be there to save her, and now he wants to Join her in death, but he also wants to have some fun on his way out, and he didnt kill anyone else, he only killed those 7 men in the Tavern. Then when he goes to the alley and puts the knife to his throat, Annabel appears infront of him, he gets shocked and passes out into a dream, which the entire dream he had is depicted in the song 'The Lover'. |

Hey Guys, Okay, well, I read the story and stuff, and also I suspected the same thing before I read it.
The song is from Annabel's Point of view, The artist was going insane and was in a world of his own, While the other personality took over(before you left, before he came.) and well, To the artist, all the events from 'curse of the virgin canvas' all the way to 'to be scared by an owl' were only a few days. But in reality, it was a Year, and Annabel was watching the artist go insane, uttering complete nonsense and Sketching Violent pictures, and he would be a complete different person, like a lunatic, one fine day, The Artist's Insane Personality tried to Kill Annabel (in the artist's mind he was fighting the thespian) and Annabel somehow was able to fight back and stab the artist in the side(how does the dagger feel now when you're at the receiving end?), and the artist woke up from the dream of him fighting the thespian and he woke up staring into a mirror in his own room, like as though it was the same morning he found annabel dead, but annabel was behind him with a dagger plunged into his side. The artist dies. Then Annabel Explains that The Artist killed himself when he let the madman take over him, and she said the madman took shelter in the mind of her lover and killed him, and he failed when he thought the knife he held at me would kill me, the knife I now hold in my hand. |
