Owl City – Embers Lyrics 11 years ago
This song for me is about fighting depression, and the need to have others in your life to make it through rough times. The first verse is exactly how depression feels, not wanting to have to fight through another moment of life, sleep being troubled, feeling like the world is just a dangerous place with no hope. I think The fire represents each person's life, what you give to other people and how you shine. It takes someone else to stoke a fire in you, but it can brighten your life unimaginably. The line I'm fanning the flames to climb so high because there's no other way we can stay alive I think is a literal comment on dying, on committing suicide, or avoiding it by working hard to keep meaning in your life, otherwise you will crumble and have no other option. The second verse is about how things won't just change abruptly, days will still suck sometimes, but hold on to the feeling of hope and things will get better. Above all, even when things look bleak don't let yourself die out.
I suppose It could also be a passion instead of a person, but whatever it has that gives your life hope and meaning, hold onto it, fight for it, and don't try to face things alone.

House of Heroes – Lose Control Lyrics 13 years ago
This song was written for the Incredible Hulk. But as they are Christians, obviously the themes of sin creep into their writing whether it's intended to or not.

Taking the lyrics word for wor, literally and at face value it is very easy to see that it is the Incredible Hulk. Lose control, feel it in my bones, etc etc.

But it also has the theme of an insidious evil that is a part of every human being that sometimes takes over and we can't control. Both meanings express a dislike for the terrible nature that takes over and is sometimes incontrollable and expess a desire for freedom from it.

House of Heroes – In The Valley Of The Dying Son Lyrics 15 years ago
Definitely epic.

I see the story of Jacob. he's in the valley, the sun goes down, he wrestles the angel. (the angel wrestling part is explicit, the rest somewhat implied)
"I'm thinkin of you when I hold my girl and wonder if she'll ever love again..."
I believe that part is when his daughter Dinah has been raped by the prince of some town they've stayed at (which his sons subsequently destroy)
"a chill up my spine...the glory of the angel or the terror in me, tonight will be my ending or tonight my new beginning"
Jacob is worried that since he's seen God he will die, but instead he gets a new name (which is pretty significant in Biblical times)
DOn't know about this part for sure, but since Abraham's descendants were likened to the stars in teh sky, the last few lines may be referenceing himself as Abraham's descendant...
I hear the WWII theme, too-bathed in the powder of a thousand guns- obviously that can't literally be Jacob, but still.
