I'm pretty sure this song is about a guy coming out as homosexual, which rocks his small, conservative town. As even positive change can bring along with it violence and controversy, people unwilling to amend their beliefs are left in the dust; hence, why Miss Progress is a killer. I'm not sure what Geraldine's role is exactly, but I see Abeline as a figure the narrator pretended to love to belie his homosexuality, perhaps even to himself. |

Nooo, you guys have it all wrong. Yes, the guy's been hurt before. He thinks that he really doesn't want to fall in love again, but against all odds, he does. He sings "If there's any love in me, don't let it grow/ and if there's any love in me, don't let it grow" with entirely the wrong tone for it to be taken literally. He's saying these things, but he doesn't mean them. He's really ecstatic to be in love, he just won't admit it to himself, yet. |
