Geographer – Kites Lyrics 15 years ago
I think a girlfriend of his cheated on him with his brother "I was a brother.." "My weight is like his".. possibly. In an interview with the band he claimed the meaning was too personal to talk about. suggesting something messed up like that :(

Passion Pit – Swimming in the Flood Lyrics 15 years ago
hahaha, I've been hearing that too! I kinda always knew that it was 'onset' but it was entertaining to think of it as Beyonce. Beyonce on a Passion Pit track... that would be interesting....

Passion Pit – Little Secrets Lyrics 15 years ago
I think if you just study the metaphors and get the references, the meaning of this song becomes obvious. Maybe its just relevant to me right now....

Its about teenagehood. The young man in the song has really gone off the rails in the last few years, he's been taking a lot of drugs for a while and probably still is. Reckless behaviour has put shame on his family and made it dysfunctional and broken. The young man hates his father (the 'emperor')for trying to correct his behaviour ('the citrus drawing out the season's stains') So he left home, and is having a great time being drug-fuelled and independant. I think the give-away reference to drugs is 'within the confines of such chemistry' - his happiness is limited to the high he gets from the drugs. The dark thing about this song is that the man is haunted by what he's done in the past. He feels sorry for what he's put his mom through, trying to insure her that he'll be alright (the 3rd verse) he feels stupid because of how his friends have grown tired of him and acknowledges the pain he's caused. The final line 'and I can not help but ignore the people staring at my scars' pretty much uncovers the emotion in the song. He HAS to ignore the people staring at his scars, because if he gave into society's pretentions he would break. That's the sad thing, and it makes me think that maybe he is lying when he says he's feeling 'higher, and higher, and higher.'

Such an amazing song, with a beautiful sound and such a powerful, relative meaning. Once I came to understand this song it made me appreciate Passion Pit a lot more as lyricists and a band in general.
