I liked this song so much i actually read the book Catch 22. In the book the main character realizes that hes not fighting for his country anymore and that they are going to win the war regardless the only reason he is being put in danger is to help his commanding officers be promoted. There are a lot of other morals in the book that go along with the theme of fighting in wars are necessarily or just not logical. The dialogue that was used in this song is between a young american soldier Nately and an Old Italian Man. The Old man thinks Italy is doing great in the war because italians are not dieing and that they will regain control eventually. Natley thinks the typical logic of america is the best nation in the world and that we are winning the war. The best part about this book is that they use logic that sometimes seems really stupid or benine but then if you think about it the logic actually makes sense. As for this songs meaning i would have to think that it is about how fighting wars are pointless. One good quote is "A lot of men are dieing in this war and a lot more are profiting off of it". |

The meaning probably has more depth in the book "Catch 22". I think it means that countries seduce the young into fighting wars to preserve the continuity of the countries. |

I think johndoehoe22 was right about what the song meaning is. Eminems meaning "Dont just wish for things on shooting, dont make excuses, you have control over what you do." However if you look at the first part and the second parts lyrics from B.o.b it really does not portray eminems meaning at all. I think bobby ray really had another simpler meaning. B.o.b's meaning is "i really wish it was like the old days when rapping was for fun not for fame." overall good song nice beat. |

| Yeah, people just hook up because its what everyone else does and feels good, but it really gets you nowhere in life. | |

This song is the shit. I mean its true for todays society as well. We are conditioned on a mass scale to fear and hate the Muslims by saying "they hate us for how we live and they hate Christians". Have any of us talked to a muslim and asked if they hate us? No we, we believe what we are told. So we fear and hate them because they are different than us because what they wear and what they do but really they are the same as you and me. I like how it centered on UNITY as well. Its not some dude saying punk people rule and gov sucks. We need to all come together and respect one another. |

| Operation Ivy – Vulnerability Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Desensitization of society to violence and gore. Because we are not sensitive to the violence we are vulnerable. Yeah not giving two craps for one another is bad : ). Great freakin song. | |

| Yeah rejoice you have a point. At first its talking about the commercialized musicians but then expands to consumerism in general with Disney and television. | |
| Operation Ivy – Missionary Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| It does apply to imperialism, but i think the song mainly did focus on Christianity as an example of imperialism. With lyrics like "words carved in stone, unquestionable belief, and covered with blood of the faithless". blacklung and tsk8r = both correct in a way. The best part about this song and Op Ivy is they did get specific. A lot of bands just generally say "fuck religion" but here you have a logical opposition to religion. | |
