This song is so clear. But I would still love to give my take on it. This is about salvation, plain and simple. Its about going through any kind of struggle you can think of. And realizing that you're nothing without God. Its that moment when you just throw up your hands and say "I can't do this alone anymore". Such a beautiful song by this band.

Shed Some Light is one of Brent's most heartfelt vocals. I kind of wonder if maybe its about making his dad proud. Clearly he's in a dark place and has made bad choices. He maybe did things in innocence when he was young that led him into a lifestyle that stuck, and he didn't want it, and didn't mean to end up where he was. But he's ready to change and be the man he meant to be and his dad would want him to be. When he says "hold me up in disbelief" that to me says show me off to the world, tell them you're proud of me. And I do think there is an element of faith in there. "its not who you are, its who you know" to me is talking about faith. He just wants a little help. A little light and guidance.

I know that according to Brent, this song is about hope. But I don't think that means the story doesn't include suicide. Nothing about this song makes me think there's no baby. I think the man in the song hit rock bottom. And when he learned he was having a child, he thought maybe that would be what would bring him back. What would make everything right again. But the damage was done. Everything that was ever good to him was gone. I think the message in the box is a note left behind for the child. And that's where the hope comes in. Maybe his note is a way of telling this child to learn from the mistakes he made, and don't go down whatever road he did. Its his gift to his child to help him have a good life.

As several have stated, to me this song is about some sort of depression. Not just a sadness. But a uselessness. A feeling of not knowing which way is up. From this song I get someone who obviously is one person in front of the rest of the world, But inside is so miserable. And behind closed doors they sit and wonder why they're even here. They don't feel like any decision makes any sort of difference. They are stuck where they are. Nothing is really wrong around them. They have everything that means anything in life. no real reason why they feel the way they do. But they do. And they could tell the world, but who would understand when on the surface they have no reason to be unhappy?

This song means a lot to me, regardless of what its actually about. To me its just a story about a typical life. You get to a place you thought you'd never be, you're in a good place, and you make mistakes, you can't shake that part of you that you wish wasn't there. And uys like he's not talking to one person, but just the people who come in and out of a person's life. The people who decide someone is too much for them, so they kick them out of their lives. But this person isn't angry, they still love the people who leave them. There are so many lines you can just pick out of this song and they say so much. My favorite is "had to make a choice that was not mine, had to say goodbye for the last time". To me all of the lines are so raw and honest. Such a beautiful song. Probably my favorite of shinedown's.

Daughtry – Ghost Of Me Lyrics

I was under the impression that this song was about something that he did. Maybe cheating. He thought the matter had been laid to rest, but it turns out that its still on her mind. And he wants to assure her that its not gonna happen again. And she thinks its happening, but he tells her its just her imagination. And her seeing him betraying her in her dreams is her only seeing the ghost of who he was, because that person is dead and gone. That's just always where my mind goes when I listen to the song.
